mac, listen bro', I live in a dbl. wide myself but...that's like taking an original Colt sgl. action .45 l.c. antique pistol and having it nickel plated and scoped! some things you just don't do in this world. now I ain't sayin' it's ugly,I'm just sayin'they should have done it to an amd65 or some other cheap kit ...prophet

Prophet Buddy, I love AK's, but let's face it, the collector value of an Original Peacmaker vs. a Norinco AK is like comparing apples and well elephants. While I agree it would have been much better to leave it well enough alone, and hard chrome an AMD, I'm of the mind the AK was built to shoot and customize. Personally, I wouldn't own it, cause I believe an AK is a tactical weapon, but if I had all the $$$ in the world, I'd hang that one on my wall of my shop, LOL

Actually, I live in a triple wide on a VA foundation, and directions to my house do not include "Turn off the paved road". I'm glad someone else on this board has a sense of humor. Oh yeah, just so happens I've got a black velvet painting of the "King", no dogs playing poker though, how much?

Likewise, my trailer trash cousin! :wink_smal
Well as a guy I work with says "I'm high class trailer trash as I have them shinny mag wheels on the tires on the roof of my trailer!".
So I guess that if you are high class trailer trash that rifle would be just the ticket to match all them shinny mag wheels?

Dunno. It takes all kinds, I guess.
I cant believe there is anyone stupid enough to actually bid on that piece of shit.
Oh, and these sellers can take a flying f*(k at a rolling donut, too. There are only a couple places in Ohio that have any kind of restrictions on this type of rifle. I shouldnt have to PROVE IN WRITING that I can have one. Fuck them. And their nasty ugly rifle.

Well, that went from a really fun thread to a real downer in about 10 seconds flat. tk, dude, lighten up just a bit, k? Not trying to offend, but it's an auction, on a website that is already laughable. I think you're taking this just a "bit" to seriously.

ah don't worry about it mac. he's probably one of them people that build their house out of concrete block then get pissed when the neighborhood goes to hell and they can't jack their house up and move it somewhere else. if ya don't like it,don't bid on it...prophet

wasn't as bad as I have thought, you can still remove the nickel plating and reblue the rifle if you really wanted to. but the fact that the seller uses the finish as a selling point annoys me.

That WOULD be a tactical rifle!! While in the woods, if you needed a shave all you'd have to do is turn that AK sideways and you have a mirror,,,,,, never mind!

Okay, this is the hilarious part! THE DAMN THING SOLD FOR $1000!!!!! ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!!! If I had bought it, I'd have had it heavily engraved with pics of Mother Mary on one side and Jesus on the Cross on the other, and I'd have had the mags plated in gold, and I'd have had the stock painted high gloss black and inlaid with gold braid and emeralds! or maybe tourquoise! Wow, what a great looking rifle I'd have had! LOL. (My father always said, he's really glad I'm not rich!)

i would like to be there and see the buyers face when he pulls his "chromed" ak out of the box. i say this for the simple fact that it is not actauly chromed.
it looks to me like its just striped and oiled so it wont rust. look at the letters stamped into the side of the receiver. those are factory stampings and there is no way they have been chromed over. the grooves are too sharp. plus, its not even shinny.
just an observation.
**PS.
i just noticed something in that close up. there is still black paint around the rivets and the barrel pin :rofl_smal

Just because it's chrome doesn't mean it has to be shiny. There are different types of chrome plating finishes, with the three most popular ones being matte, Brushed, or polished. In this case the gun is most likely finished in matte, which is none reflective. That would also explain why the markings are still sharp, since no polishing has been done to the metal surface.
That said, the rifle, judging from the picture, looks more like satin nickel, because the rifle looks yellowish, but it could just be poor lighting.

From what I can see, the black stuff looks to be either oil stain or crud, Chinese AKs are blued, not painted, so there shouldn't be any paint anyway.
the black stuff could also be chromic acid creeping out if the critter wasnt cleaned properly after plating

I'm thinking about throwing together a beater AMD-65 pistol. Moly-resin has a brushed stainless finish that I might use on it. Might get my pimp gun yet!

Hey, don't knock the King! I just might do it in silver finish, and inlay it in gold!! It'll match my front teeth! Better yet, I'll hang bells from it!

Just a word to explain about the plating, it is hard chrome, totally different from the chrome plating most of us are used to seeing. nice shiny chome is really 3 layers of plating, base of copper that is soft and used to fill any small blemishes-
kind of like primer under paint-the copper is polished till it shines like gold-then a layer of nickel plate and a layer of chrome. This is why the name triple-chrome
plating is used.Hard chrome is an industrial finish that is used because of it's
ability to be machined with out flaking. It's very hard and wears forever. As far as the gun in the auction goes, I would'nd pay $1000 for it if both mags were stuffed with $100 bills

I could understand why some might hard-chrome a firearm. Perfect for a boat gun or tropical weather. I would paint it black over the hard chrome myself. It to easy for light to refect off it.

Yeah, hard chrome isn't shiny. I've got a pistol with a hard chrome slide and it is a matte silver color.
you can get mirror result frome hard chrome,,,,,,BUT,,,,,the surface prep. has to be perfect, your plated surface finish will be no better than the resultant under-finish,and defects stand out ten fold. Then the plating bath has to be perfect(percentages of chromic and sulfuric acids, and other ingrediants to ensure a smooth finish). Then there is the bath temperuture and amps and voltage and time to to run it at.You can usually expect a matte finish. At least I learned something about ornimental plating today! Thanks.
