View Thread: Finally. Time to build.

I'm going to give this a shot. I bought a Romy G a couple months back. I've slowly been working on it but nothing too serious.

Now its time for the good stuff. Hope you fellas will point me in the right directions. This build wouldn't be possible without some buddies, that's for sure. Thanks for everything.

I plan on painting flat black with engine paint. Do I need to oven bake? How long? Any links?

I'm going to sand the furniture myself and paint a light coat to bring out the color. Then seal. Right?

I have all compliance parts and plan to keep the forward grip it came with. Is this a good idea? Should I switch it off? I live out in Cali so I'm putting a Radlock on her.

Its all matching, but the bcg is a diferent # than the rest of the rifle? Doesthis mean its not matching? Is that going to be a problem?

I plan to take pix and take everyone through my build. Hopefully everything goes smooth. Hope to have a working Romy G in a few.

Thanks to all feedback. Good and bad. No worries. Thanks again.

Even if the bolt and trunnion numbers match, you still want to headspace to be safe.

For wood, I use Bix stripper then sand, stain and seal. I've used polyurethane in the past with good results. A number of guys here have used RIT dyes, Russian red or various stains and then they varnish, shellac and other methods. Do you have any plans on what you want to do?

Im sanding the wood down. I have an NDS3 with a Romy G. Tapco single hook insides. I plan to spray paint flat black with engine paint. Bake, maybe. I dont really want to mess up my GFs oven. Im just waiting on some buddies to rivet the whole thing.

Its all demilled, only problem is the numbers are not all the same. I just looked at the thing and the bcg, front trunnion, dust cover are one #. The gas piston and barrel are a another # . Will that be a problem.

If my buddies dont come through, Im pretty much going to sit on it.

ronin
What do you mean the barrel #? The Romy G barrels don't have a number - they are pressed into the front trunnion and that has the number. I'm not razzing you - I just want to make sure I understand. Hmmmmm.... there are numbers on the barrel that have to do with tolerances and manufacturing but I really don't recall ever seeing one with the serial number on it.

A non-matching gas tube is no big deal. You may just need to sand it a bit to fit right is all.

With regards to matching numbers, the collectors like them to match but there's nothing written in stone that says they must. You will hear guys that say that if the trunnion and bolt have the same # then you don't need to headspace and personally I think that is risky. No matter what, headspace the rifle with real go and no-go gauges to make sure it is safe.

Well I looked under the sights and theres a number under there. Its the same as the gas piston. Am I mistaken?
Thanks again ronin.
