I know someone here converted their AK rifle to a bullpup configuration using the K-Var kit. I want to give this a try. I have one major reservation.
From what I can tell the trigger is operated by Piano Wire. Now, I'm not an expert, but this sounds like a good way to ruin an already iffy trigger. You could end up with a loose wire which may make the trigger unpredictable, or worse it could snap.
So I thought of the SAR-21 (Singapore Bullpup). Instead of a wire or rod, it uses a sliding plate. So my idea is as such:
Instead of the wire, I want to use a solid rod that will connect with a plate to operate the action. The plate will be cut in the middle and go around the magazine well, being short enough to not come into contact with the action. Another rod will be used (welded) to the rear of the plate and will operate the original trigger group. If at all possible I want to skip the welding of the last rod and just use the plate. Some shaping and forming will be required.
Problems: I don't actually have the K-Var bullpup kit in hand. This being the case, I want to know from users who do have one if their is enough room for a small device as described to properly operate the rifle. If you could give measurements of the area underneath the front trunnion where the piano wire is supposed to go, and the width of the area on either side of the magazine well where normally the wire would go, it would really help me get this idea off the ground.
Better idea: Can anyone post the manual that comes with it?
Edit: Yes, K-Var no longer has them. But a shop near where I live (like I'm going to tell anyone where it is :p ) still has a kit collecting dust on the shelf.
