View Thread: Want a Milled AK. Best direction to go?

Captain Phil
So, big surprise. Am finishing my first AK build, and the bug seems to have bitten.

Now I want to build/get/own a milled rifle. I have always had a penchant for a galil, why I don;t know. So the information acquisition begins, and I am turning to the "hive mind" for thoughts and information.

As far as milled goes, where does one acquire a receiver without having to sell a child (not that I would MIND)?

What is/are the best milled variants?

What is the cheapest way to go?

How HARD are milled receiver builds?

As I said - In the informational gathering stage, so anything you would like to pass along would be appreciated.

SPF but a great deal! http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58895

as far as i know the yugo milled receivers from ORF were the best price short of rewelding a cut up receiver back together.

Captain Phil
that was a nice deal, and I have no problem with a Yugo.

Of course, the only REAL factor is going to be ACAP (as cheap as possible).

No interest in cutting, rewelding, etc. Yugo receiver is $250, much cheaper than a Galil receiver.

Just finished building 2 Yugo M-64 Kits. Thes were a lot harder to build than I thought it was going to be. I waited over 2 years to get receivers from Ohio Rapid Fire . I sent the barrels to Rapid Fire and had the receiver threads timed to the barrel threads. Glad I did made a big difference. Getting the head space right was very diifcult for me one was off by .025. I finally got it right and they came out great. The kits I got from Apex for $200.00 each and are in very good shape. Barrels are actually good after a good cleaning are preety bright with good rifling and lands. I paid $350.00 for each receiver. I put one together with a new set of wood from Ironwood Design ( $115.00), and the other is all original with original wood and pistol grip . New bullet guides and G-2 fire control group. I also paid $100 to get all parts parcked. What I'm saying is this is not a cheap build. I love Milled AK's as I also own 2 Arsenal SA-7's. To me there is no comparison . I like the Yugo M-64's as I have a grenade launcher with practice grenades. They are alot of fun. If you can afford to do one they are the way to go. My AK buddies are jealous and we have alot of fun with them. It took me a while but I learned a ton doing this project. Have Fun!!!!
