View Thread: cleaning the G off from the RSB of a romy kit???

I want to take the G ingraving off from a romy rear sight block. what would be the best way to do this?
I was thinking of hitting it with a quick line from a mig welder?? then just grind it off. would this be too hot?
has anyone done this before?

Some 'G' markings are deep amd some shallow. If it is shallow it can be sanded off fairly readily. If welding., beware of the sides of a RSB., they are very thin and can be warped or burned through very easily.

I just buffed mine off with an buff pad like you would use in railing work. (They
are triangular in shape and have 3 holes in them. Available at welding supply
houses) I absolutely would not weld it. With its odd shapes I will almost bet
it will warp and crack. If you are a pro and know how to pre-heat and normalize
that's a different story.

Okay,
No to welding then.
I will try to research to see what your mean by Buff pad. Are you speaking of the sanding wheel with mini seperate flaps of sanding cloth?
If I buff or sand then buff the "G" out wouldnt you see the dished out area on the RSB?
Any other ideas?

You could wet sand the area to remove any high points then fill the "G" with JB Weld or equivalent, then wet sand until smooth. Probably how I would do it if needed, but mine was so shallow I could just sand it away.

These are similar to what I use. They are called non-woven surface conditioning
discs. Kinda like a scotchbrite material with imbedded abrasive.

I used a dremel cutting disk (not attached to the dremel) and just rubbed the "G" off of one of mine with it.
As stated, some are shallow and some are deep.

I just used a sanding disc and it came right off.
