View Thread: Different front sight blocks on Polish rifles?

danny boy
I received my Polish type 1 bayonet today from ronin and went to put it on my Polish under folder, but it didn't fit.

I looked around for a reason and after looking at picture after picture the only conclusion I could reach is that under folders and straight stock rifles have different front sight blocks.

Is this true?

Is there anything else that will take a Polish bayonet?

Thanks in advance.

I figure that your rifle has a milled receiver? The milled receiver Polish underfolders can’t take a bayonet, according to this site;

http://www.druzynaorlow.webpark.pl/ak.htm

The page is in Polish, but use the Google translator, and it says among other things this about the milled Polish Kalashnikovs;

‘For the AK rifle butt constant can also be attached bayonet wz. 1947'.

Since these translators translate directly, translations can sometimes be diffuse and difficult to understand, but in this case ‘butt constant’ means ‘solid butt’ as in ‘fixed stock’. This and other sites mention specificly that the fixed-stock milled Polish AK will take a bayonet, while there is no mentions of the underfolders. Like you said, the front sight blocks are different on the two milled versions, while they are identical to eachother when it comes to the stamped ones.

Most other milled rifles such as the Russian, Bulgarian, East German etc. will accept your bayonet.

No, the rifle is a stamped receiver. It has a bayonet lug on the gas block that takes all other bayonets.

Can you post a picture? My underfolder built on a matching polish kit sure takes a bayonet.

;) Couldn't see why a Polish bayo would not lock in to a Polish underfolder. A pic sure would sort out this dilema.

I had a similar problem with my stamped East German rifle. It turned out that the muzzle nut was damaged [it looked like it had been been exposed to pressure from the sides while off the rifle, making it slightly convex]. It was, however, not damaged to the point where it would not fit the rifle, but just enough convex to not allow the ring of the bayonet to slide over it. Changed it for a slant brake, and now it's just fine.
