Mag widths

A local shop has a bunch of old beat up 7.62 AK mags he is unsure of origian but the proplem is they are too wide to fit in the mag well of three different Ak I tried. My question is had anyone else ever came across mags like this if so what country were they from?

I've got AK mags from the USSR, PRC, Romania, DDR, Poland, Egypt, Hungary, and Yugoslavia. Never had a problem with any of 'em fitting in my Romy G. Maybe you didn't find an AK mag?

maybe they are vz58 mags?

VZ has slant on outside bottom edge of mag.

AK is squared bottom.

Unconverted WASRS are not going to accept DS mags, dig?

are they plastic? i once bought some mags at a gun show that were "orlite" (sp). i was told they were for the AK. they were 7.62x39, BUT not for an AK. Galil never made 7.62x39 as far as i know, so i don't know what they went to. if they are metal, then they might be for the chinese type 79. only a few were imported. i also had one of these mags and they do not fit an AK.

They are steel mags and look exactly like any other steel AK mag i have used. I tried them in a Norinco,Saiga(converted to take AK mags), A romyG that I built on a Nodak reciever, and a Bulgarian SLR107. I will try to post some pics in the next day or so to show you guys what I'm talking about.

Make sure they aren't aluminum.

are the followers free?

do the feed lip plates look bulged?

Are you sure they are "wider" or do they just not fit? They might be those peeling paint Polish Tantal magazines in 5.45x39.
