View Thread: American made sks?

I was wondering since there are American made AK's if an American company would create an sks for us special niches that would buy it. Have there ever been any plans to do so. I would buy one just because even if it was around a grand I would still pick one up.

A milled rifle like the SKS would be expensive to produce. Although you are interested in paying $1K. I do not think there is a US market at that price. Considering you can get an excellent SKS from several countries for less than a third of that cost. The SKS has a limited history and production run., unlike the AK for example, which has more historic and geographic diversity. My opinion.

if some one bought the machinery from Romania, East Germany or... Russia
kind of like the PTR-91 story (CETME)
it could prove very interesting....
its a great weapon
if some one made it a full size 308 or 762x54r wow it would be a best seller!

I think you need to do more research.
There is no such thing as an "American made AK".
The companies that sell such things can "legally" call them "American made" (a side effect to the 922r law), but 90% of their components are made overseas.
Don't be fooled by marketing departments.

Never happen commercially.

The SKS although a bit outdated is a very good rifle, but with so many already proven variants from a variety of countires available WHY would you want a US made version??
I have several I would let go for $1000.00ea if your serious about wanting an SKS.. :wink_smal
Can't imagine anyone going through the trouble of making an SKS, especially trying to do one in another caliber..
Buy an SKS, & a PSL then call it good...

I have 3 sks
1953 tula
norinco paratrooper
and a norinco type 56
and one PSL. I just think it would be awesome if an American company bought the machinery and produced them in say 5.45x39, 5.56x45, 7.62x51, and 7.62x54.

I think by "American made AK" he might be referring to the Centurion 39. Its on http://www.centuryarms.com front page being advertised as "100% American made AK."
Could it be really 100%? I'm thinking no but then again there are so many US producers of AK parts; from receivers to barrels to fcg to handguards to gas tubes etc. What if Century managed to snag a deal from US vendors to legitimately produce an "American AK"?

It's just another product being advertised by it's "legal status" rather than it's actual one.
If a firearm is 922r compliant, it can legally be called "US Made" (just look at IO tootin' their horn selling their Romanian produced junkers as "US Made")
6 US parts for a company the size of Century = >$50

I think with the popularity of the SKS as a hunting rifle now, if a company started making them in "hunting calibers" such as .243 Win or something, as well as .223, and also 5.45x39 I think they would sell. Look at what Remington is doing with Zastava's Mauser rifles.
