View Thread: Yugo M70 experience from Classic Arms

I figured I would post my experience of ordering and recieving my Yugo m70 ak from Classic Arms.
Positive:
* Fast shipping 3 days and well packed
* Polite and helpful phone service
* No canted sights and no wobbly mag
* G2 Tapco trigger vs crappy stock one
* Tapco Poly and Like New Metal 30 round mags
* Tapco Grip
* After 100 rounds no misfeeds or jams
* Accurate out to 75 rounds without zeroing

Negative:
* Water drip on bolt carrier left a rust streak on the top and side of gun.....solvent removed all but black blemish.
* No matching serial numbers
* Tapco upper and lower handguards smoking hot after 20 rounds
* Night sight on front sight flips up and down after each shot pin barely held in
* Bolt is scarred with writing???? Letters JK to the left of the serial numbers?? and rust pits....no rust on bolt though
* two large chips on the Piston head and three rust pits on the head as well.

Most of these negative are most likely common my main concern is with the pits and chips on the piston head and bolt......does this affect accuracy? You do guys think I should return this?

i had a early model they sold a few years back with the wooden handguards, mag pouch, bayonet, 2 steel mags, very tight stock, and i had that same corrosion on the piston and a couple of small parts on the bolt carrier. but it functioned great and regretted getting rid of it. it is typical of yugo's to have that corrosion i have seen on others that i have checked out. i assume it was from the corrosive ammo they used and didnt clean out right away, which i wouldnt care about doing in a middle of the Balkan war. i would keep it and refinish it to your liking. i dont think your going to get any better one from century.

I ordered my M70UF from Classic Arms about 6months ago. I was very happy with them as a company, their customer service was great, shipping and shipping time was great as well.
Now as far as the gun goes, they get them from Century, they dont build them themselves... Most people on this forum, I have come to find out and now realize myself, will steer you away from MOST of what Century has to offer. They are a very large importer of WASRs and other types and it seems that they just dont mind letting an inferior product out of their doors, so long as they keep their income steady. Unfortunately for the customer, either you take it and be happy or you can take it up with them and see what happens. You know what I mean.
My 2 cents worth,
Cheers

OH, my M70, although there was a couple small things that I was able to take care of myself, shoots GREAT and had no issues with at all at the range. And I know what you mean about the shitty plastic handgaurds getting SCORCHING HOT after one single mag! Oh well

Thanks guys I don't want anyone to think I am bad mouthing Classic Arms I am just concerned if the pits and chips will affect accuracy. I know with Century it is hit or miss. I lucked out with my PSL and got an amazingly like new rifle with matching serials and no issues.....but I think that was luck.

No the bolt looks fine as well as the gas piston . None of the pits would have an effect on headspace . The writing may be electropenciling . Common on Yugo parts .They were build numbers ,not to be confused with serial numbers

The letters on the bolt signify that it passed the technical inspection. They are found on many parts on m70's. I bet your piston also has them on it. The chips on the piston won't affect anything. They didn't use an American replacement, so the originals are sometimes banged up. It's an easy replacement if it really bothers you, though

Thanks guys really appreciate the help. I will keep it since it does shoot great just need to find a better lower and upper hand guard and need to get a few more mags.

let me know what you find for hand gaurds

Auditech10,
I am pretty sure I am not going to just buy a standard hand guard, but instead a rail. With the rail I can mount my harris bipod as well as utilize a grip which will totally alleviate the heat issue. Also with the bipod attached I can be far more accurate then shooting standing or kneeling.

I am leaning toward Kvar's rail for 114.00
[http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17035&cat=296&page=1]
since the other I found was Samson's for 220.00

Now the question lies will these work with the Yugo underfolder....they should since I have a grenade launcher pad on the buttstock and it does have room as it sits under the hand guard rail. I have yet to find a good grip though and I have no interest in Leapers or Utg plastic crap.

I am also thinking of getting Samsons Rear sight rail for 125.00

to mount a red dot sight or scope while still being able to use my iron sights. I know many are stock fans but personally for shooting targets I don't find sights to be better then a scope past 50 yards.

Those handguards will not fit a Yugo. A lot of $$ on a rifle that is not going to give a lot of accuracy over 3 to 4 MOA. May be better served with a different platform or a standard AKM or AK74 with a side rail to optics mopunting at much less cost. Just my .02 cents.

Its common knowledge that the Century Yugos are mix-masters of refurbed Yugo M70 parts blended with US parts for 922 compliance by some Century assembly subcontracter.

You might have a barrel trunnion from a milled gun blended with parts from stamped guns or whatever combo was pulled from the parts buckets.
One of my M70s has a Zasatva-marked trunnion from a stamped gun, the other has an unmarked trunnion from a milled gun.
Nothing on either gun matches by S/N, but all parts are serviceably refurbed and aside from plastic furniture, are "correct" for a Yugo U/Folder AKM.

Still my favorite followed by my Polski U/F.

I was going to call them first to see if they would work, but if they won't does anyone have any suggestions for a lower handguard that you could attach and use a bipod or grip for....other then utg and leapers?
