View Thread: Difference Between VZ2008 Sporter and VZ 58?

Can someone educate me on the difference between these two rifles? The VZ 58 seems to be more expensive but they do look quite similar. How do you tell the difference?

The VZ2008 is Century Arms version of the Vz.58. All of these rifles are built on a milled receiver though I can't attest to the quality of either version. Given Century Arms history, I'd spend the extra money and go to http://www.czechpoint-usa.com/

Get the CZ vz58 from Chechpoint. Granted they cost more, but its the real deal from from an outfit that has customer service second to none. They are great people to do business with. They also pay for shipping and your transfer fee to your FFL. So the $850.00 is your total cost. The vz2008 is built on a US made receiver, were as th CZ comes complete from the Chech Republic and is milled out to accept 30 rd mags here along with 922r compliance parts. Fit and finish is also excellent.

My latest "AK" is a VZ.58 from Czechpoint. I also was very impressed with their customer service.

One of the 2 mags that came with my rifle was defective and would cause a fail to feed. Dan over there told me to send it back and he's replacing it and reimbursing me for shipping. Very upstanding company and I'd highly recommend them. As Moose said, the fee you see includes shipping and your FFL transfer fee, no matter what that fee is.

I got the Military Classic with the original wood furniture from Checpoint. After firing a couple hundred rounds, I noticed that the upper hand guard had cracked. Called Dan at Chechpoint, he told me that was the main reason the Chechs went to the pressed wood furniture. He sent me a complete new upper in the wood and an upper in the pressed wood, that I could use when shooting and use the nice wood the rest of the time. I talked to Dan on Friday and had the replacement parts on Tuesday. Customer service doesn't come any better than that.

The CAI rifles come with a slant muzzle brake, and steel FCG parts. The CP rifles have all plastic FCG parts and a welded on muzzle brake. Checkpoint has good service. I have not fired the CAI rifles yet but the CP I shot impressed me. The mags are a little hard/expensive to come by. But for a milled 7.62x39 rifle it's a good addition to any collection even if no parts interchange with AK's.
