View Thread: new AMD-65 questions

pkilla
Hey guys just picked up a AMD-65 from AIM. Couple things have me a bit worried that I got a lemon. Im def no AK guru, so i thought i would see what you guys thought.
First is the mag wobble is pretty bad front to back, about a 1/4" with an empty 30 round metal yugo mag. Even worse side to side. The 20 round tapco polymer mag doesent wobble front to back but side to side is quite a bit of wobble. Alot more then my WASR-10.
Second is the action is extremly stiff. If you pull the charging handle back it will stay untill nudged with your hand, sometimes will stay half open, and sometimes wont go into battery with out being nudged. I cycled through some rounds and half the time it would not go into battery. Its just so much more stiff then my WASR I dont know if its junk or just needs to be broken in. Thinking about sending it back and getting a SGL21.
I know thats not a whole lot of detail but what do you guys think? Is that normal? Thanks for the input.

Put 100 rounds through it and see if the problem persists. I'm predicting that this FEG AMD-65 will be the most reliable AK in your collection. Many of these have brand new, yet original, parts. Let them break in.

Indeed a new AK should be broke in for proper/smooth operation,...... but this 1/4" f-b play would concern me a whole lot. Try a couple different mags in it to see if you get the same results. I had built an AMD65 a year or so back and probably is one of my favorite take everywhere rifles in my arsenal. Action was a little stiff at first but now it's smooth as glass after running a little over a 1000 rnds. through her. Ken in Pa.
