View Thread: Checking Bore Condition

Mide
This may be a stupid question, but if I'm at a pawn shop looking at old Mosin rifles and I'm interested in looking down the bore to see as to its condition, if I remove the bolt, look through from the receiver end to make sure it's cleared, put a flashlight on the receiver end and then look down the muzzle end, is this considered dangerous/foolish? I've heard that one is "not supposed to look down a barrel of a gun" for good reasons to an inexperienced handler but if you're checking on the condition you do get a much better look from the barrel end rather than the receiver/stock end.

If you remove the bolt and see that the chamber is empty, i don't see it as dangerous. I don't do it where someone can see me. Might be uncomfortable for the unenlightened.

Well, someone had to take all the pictures out there like this one...

No danger w/ bolt removed. I`d get a bore light though, works better & they`re cheap.
