View Thread: slant cut milled chinese ak

i read around about type 2 and 3 milled receivers. all about russian, nothing about chinese. i have a mak90 slant cut milled receiver arsenal "386". is this a type 2 or 3? also does it matter being chinese and not 50's russian? is there a difference in steel quality or reliability in the straight cut polytech preban milled and the post ban slant cut milled. i believe they are made at the same state arsenal.

i have. i didnt clarify if it is a type 2 or 3 receiver. i had come across this posting on another gun forum i came across on a google search. this guy was talking about the type 2 and 3 chinese receiver saying one was junk and one wasnt. that, if i remember correct his friend didnt shoot one of them over this reason. didnt sound right to me. i would shot the hell out of it untill something broke, but that is just me. so i wanted to see if there was anything to this.
it was on here i just came across it again on a google search. mine also has the spring loaded firing pin if that makes a difference.

Sorry for bringing up something you knew already.
Since the slant cut MAK 90 milled receiver is exactly a copy of the latest AK design but with the slant cut for export as a sporter Modified AK it should be a type 4. The straight cut milled receiver MAK 90 or better yet preban will be a type 3.
This should get the ball rolling here ;) , I could be wrong and if so some one here that is in the know will tell/correct me.

Other than the slant cut which is done solely for the purpose of making the mounting of any stock other than a thumbhole a pain in the ass, it's a Type 3. I wouldn't call it a type 4 since it's not a true design change, but merely a mod done as a direct result of the U.S. import regulations.
Keep in mind though even though it resembles a type III it's not 100% identical, the Chinese receivers have several features that are unique.
