building a 1987 m70ab2 yugo under folder and have been hitting the receiver with birchwood casey perma blue as per directions. after 10 or so application, it turned a beautiful plumb brown that would do any kentucky squirrel barker, Turkish mauser, or battle field pick-up proud,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the prob is, the front end is cherry blueing along with the cover,tg,and safety

anyone know what may have caused this effect?

how do I fix it on te cheep?

the rcvr is a bit scabby from my bend, but I'd rather not spray bomb it

thanks guys

You should have oiled it before you put it down for the night. Oil keeps it from rusting like that. You might be able to clean with come 000 steel wool and oil to save it. Otherwise brake parts cleaner gets cold-blue off easily.

AK Hunter posted a good way to do cold blue, I have tried bluing this way and it does work.
Check out his post on this link.

The only thing I would suggest is to use some of that jellied rust remover to get you back to the ready to blue stage.

I may have to try AK Hunter's method on the next one. I hit it with carb cleaner and it didn't even phase the finnish, but the 000 wool is knocking down the brown color a bit. I think I'll try a few more application and assembel it. I can spray bomb it later or leave it as is and just call it "Tommy Tutone"!

I talked about your problem to a buddy at work that knows alot about guns, and he sugested boiling your receiver in water like they do when rust bluing. This would give you a dark rust finish that you could put your bluing over.

Here is a link to the post for Rust Bluing.
So you can study the procedure.

I finally got peaved and built it as is after knockind down most of the brown. The finish actually seems to be a fair match to the underfolder soes it aint looking like total and complete ass

thanks for the suggestions guys,,,I shall be sure to apply them to future builds
