View Thread: Cleaning barrel (Shot Silver Bear)

I cleaned Saiga AK 47 yesterday after shooting the reliable
FMJ SB (123 gr round)

It took a long time to clean barrel compared to (non-corrosive) Wolf & (non-corrosive) Ulyanovsk....has anyone else noticed that it doesn't shoot very clean? (I'm thinking of target shooting w/ Ulyanovsk since i have more of it anyways).

Wow. thats got to be some dirty stuff. I thought that wolf was dirty.

i heard silver bear was the cleanest of the russian ammo

before shooting it, i thought the same thing

I used a mop w/ gun oil the last time it was cleaned months ago. When i ran a dry patch down the bore the day before shooting past week,
AK barrel was 100% dry + clean...so rifle was fine.

....but after i cleaned the barrel i thought, dam i have never spent so long cleaning just one gun; and i only shot 3 or 4 boxes.

Several times, the magazine came out since i was using a non-Russian polymer mag in Russian AK. Could this cause the barrel to foul up??
(I was just zeroing in scope, and not emptying mags)

Is this a serious question?

Magazines have nothing to do with barrel fouling.

We certainly have some interesting questions here from time to time.

Don't we.

Why would you be cleaning a firearm, an AK with a magazine in it????

Remove mag, clear weapon and clean after removing bolt, carrier, cover, etc.

Safety is extremely important in cleaning firearms!

Most of the Bear ammo has ball powder and most of the Wolf has extruded powder.

buy "not emptying mags" i meant i only fired enough ammo to
zero in sights.. i.e. not going through 30rds of ammo one after another.

i should have clarified this.

Well, why not?
Going through 30 rds of X39 (better yet 40 or 75) one mag after another is the best part of having an AK.

I have not shot any silver bear yet. Just brown bear. And I won't ever buy that again.

non-corrosive my ass!

It's filthy too. Worse than Wolf. In fact, I think the only thing I have shot dirtier than BBB was Hot Shot. And even that might not have been as bad.
