View Thread: AK 47 in 6.8 Remington SPC or other?
Darth AkSarBen
Has anyone ever re-barreled an AK47 as well as modify the bolt to take the Remington 6.8mm SPC cartridge or others? I would think that this combination would be very desirable for U.S. troops fighting in Afghanistan.
Could it be done?

sounds very interesting
...yeah has anybody done this yet?

Yes, the 6.8 SPC and the 6.5 Grendal have already been done on the AK47 platform. The 6.8 has been used in Afganistan since its inseption in the m16.

Say's in there that it can easily outperorm the 7.62 x 39 Soviet. I would agree, looking at ballistics in my reloading manual. If I had any AK-47, I would want it chambered for the 6.8 MM SPC or the 6.5 Grendal.
The G.5 Grendal info is here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6.5_mm_Grendel
It has documented to shoot a 1.198" group at ...... 660 yards That's 1980 feet!!

Just get you an XCR in 6.8 www.robarm.com (http://www.robarm.com) , and you can also get the 7.62x39 and 5.56 caliber conversions for a lot less than a whole new rifle.
It has an adjustable long stroke gas system similar to the AK, but with the ergos similar to an AR.
