View Thread: ? about reloading surplus brass

i got this albanian surplus brass in 54r. read about converting to boxer. i know its hassle to convert but would be well worth it. i deprimed the berdan by drilling. it even took care of the anvil at same time. then drilled new flash hole in center. test fitted a boxer primer but does not sit deep enough in pocket. i also tried the ball bearing trick but may not work as primer does not fit deep enough.the boxer is almost flush to the top of pocket. so my question is would be i able to seal primer to pocket with nail polish or something ? would it work?

This is the big problem with trying to reload Berdan primed cases, the primer pockets are physically the wrong size to accept Boxer primers. If you don't get a proper press-fit, if the round goes off, it will likely spit the primer out of the pocket and cause blow-by at the very least, enough of which will cause damage to your rifle (and it won't take long doing it, either). The primer cup may deform and actually flow into the firing pin hole, clogging it to the point that the firing pin may not retract and then you face slam fire issues.

is there a way to reuse this brass? can it be converted to boxer?

I'm sorry, it seems a real waste to me as well, but nothing I've been able to find points to a way to do this safely or effectively.
