View Thread: Butt Pad On a AK 74?
Jpanzer
Just wondering if anyone uses a butt pad on their 74? It wouldn't be for recoil, but simply to give me a little more length to the stock.
For some reason the Bulgarian wood on mine seems a little short, though I'm sure its standard Warsaw length. I can deal with it until I put an optic on the rifle, and then it really feels like I need a little extra length.
Opinions?

Can't remember if it was ironwood or scott, but someone was making wood stocks in nato length.
I have a rubber buttpad on my AKM63, but I'd rather have a longer stock that matches the handgrips.

Mod a yugo m59/66 sks rubber pad to fit on it.
Egunparts should have them cheap .
Will add 1" to the lop.

These buttpads are copies of grenade launch military bpads. Fit all AK types and PSL and folders.

Yeah I know about these. I have one on my S12. My main concern is whether I will look like some kind of dumbass for having a butt pad at all on the 74. It does seem like the best alternative to getting a new stock entirely though...

I use one. Why not?

You can also re-contour the buttpad to be smaller in circumference with a belt sander.

I am a hardcore purist, so for me I won't ever use a "Nato" or American length stock. However the buttpad's from FSE work well for both fixed and folding stocks. In addition add enough eye relief to actually use a Russian optic.

I have one on my Hungarian AKMS and don't really care what people think.

Went ahead and ordered another butt pad. After trying the one off my S12 on the 74 with the optic attached, it was a no brainer. Much easier to get a good sight picture now with the little bit of added length to the stock. Thanks for all the input guys! ;)
