View Thread: buttstock question saiga rpk

i've looked all over this forum ,and several other forums, but have not found a clear answer to my question.

Will an "RPK "clubfoot buttstock fit a standard sized ak receiver. what info i have found is that there is a difference in the receiver wall thickness between RPK and AK receivers. where it gets unclear is whether the buttstock can be sanded to fit or if it needs to be shimmed to fit. also ive seen several types of "RPK" furniture here and there.. Russian, Romanian, etc.
Is there any one of these particular makes that will fit as is?
heres my plan, a basic conversion:
-convert a long barrel saiga 308 to a "RPK" style rifle.
-dinzag bolt on handguard retainer and gas tube for 308
-RPK handguards and clubfoot buttstock.
- later on possibly tread barrel and come up with bipod solution..

can anyone forsee any problems with this setup that might save me headaches before i start buying parts?

The RPK receiver, and buttstock, is narrower and a bit shorter inside than an AKM. The RPK buttstock would a bit of a loose fit. The 308 Saiga barrel is a larger diameter than the other caliber Saiga rifles but with the right parts you may be able to fit some handguards.
