View Thread: Tractor Gun?
Jeepranch
While out bushogging today I was reminded that I should be carrying a weapon. A pack of wild dogs came through the farm, stopping long enough to check out the barn, (stock was on the other side of the pasture). I could of probably nailed at least a couple had I armed my self. I used to carry a plr 16 Keltec on the tractor until I had to shoot it at a dog that was running the horses. When my ears stopped ringing about a week later, I decieded not to repeat that mistake, although the PLR is a mighty handy weapon. I have an old wasr 10 that I decieded would make a better tractor gun, so I put a Romy sidefolder on it, and a AMD 65 lower handguard, with pistol grip(handiest thing you can do to your AK). Now this is part of the tractor features. (look out coyotes).
What do others carry? Pistol, AK, other? curious if there is a better way to go.

I usually carry a handgun in a shoulder holster when on the tractor. I have a "wrap around" seat that gets in the way of a belt holster. When bushhogging I also usually carry a Cold Steel Kukri for trimming low hanging branches and such. Carry it slung cross-body on an old belt, it hangs over the side of the seat. I don't have a cab on mine, so any rifle would need a scabbard. Not worth the effort in my sitch anyway. YMMV.
Tractors are pretty loud anyway, a set of ear plugs is not a bad idea even if you don't plan on firing your gun.

Yep, you should try to wear earplugs around tractors, lawn mowers, etc. (The cheap foam ones will do.) It won't kill you but the damage builds up.

I keep CZ-82s in my tractors. Cheap so I don't mind em gettin banged around.

I've been carrying an ak-74 behind the seat this year since it has a 4x posp. It should handle anything I come across. But I wear earplugs most of the time in the tractor, so I'm really not worried about taking a shot if I see something.

I have a scabbard on my tractor and it currently is filled with a Marlin lever action in .357.
When deer season opens up I will switch to a 30-30.
The 'yotes are getting louder and louder and more brazen.
If they start coming atound in small packs I might swap for mySKS.
With society getting weirder and weirder and Xmas getting closer I always have a long gun and a pistol.
I am more concerned with someone breaking into my house while I am out in the field.

My Grandfather used to carry a Stevens single barrel 12 ga on his, Dad carried an old beat-up .380 on his.

Realy shoudl get a set off muffs guys. The plugs are a PITA and generaly ya just wind up stuffing dirt into your ears.

All mine have cabs but I def protect my ears as much as I can. I enjoy my hearing and would like to keep it that way.

Semi auto long slide pistol should do the trick. That's what I carry when I'm out cutting. I prefer 10mm for this role.

^I would love to have a Fusion long slide 10mm. They`re almost too purty for a tractor gun though.

Remember "Firepower" magazine from the 80's? During all the farm foreclosures back then they had a real "tractor gun" made up. An M60 with armored shield rigged up to a 3-point hitch.

I've sold a pile of PS-90's to farmers/ranchers that carry them in their pickups and tractors. A couple of guys SBR'd them as well.
