View Thread: AK-74 Rear Sight- Same as AK-47?

I've got a new plum Lancaster Bulgy 74 (very nice by the way!!!) and want to add a windage adjustable rear sight leaf. Would an AKM 1000M rear leaf be identical to a 1000M AK-74 rear leaf?

Also, do rifles built up from parts kits typically need to be re-zeroed after being remated to new receivers? My Lancaster 74 has the front sight pin shifted a little to the right but the sight tower seems perfectly aligned on the center of the barrel i.e. no cant. I suppose a short field test will sort that out. Anyone know if these parts kit rebuilders like Lancaster do a sight-in on or is up to the buyer? Thanks!!

The AK74 and AKM rear sight leaves are usually the same. The ramp on the rear sight block is the difference. For a windage adjustable rear sight the RPK is not the same The true adjustable AKM sights have the battle sight setting to the rear of the "1" setting. The RPK sight does not. There were some AKM windage adjustable rear sights that went to 100 maters but most were AK-47 type that went to 800 meters. The 800 meter sights will not work properly on the AK-74. The RPK and RPK-74 sights that do not have a battle sight setting to the rear of the "1" won't work properly. The correct windage adjustable sight goes to "10" (1000 meters) and has a battle sight setting rearward of the "1". The battle sight setting sits the adjuster on the "shelf" and not on the ramp. The length and calibrations of the RPK sight are way off for use on an AK-74. The RPK sight block has no shelf behind the ramp. Once you center the front sight the windage adjustment isn't really needed. Getting use to the AK sights is best.
