View Thread: Range finding with a 4x6 LPS scope

Any of you all figured this thing out? According to the manual:
The range finder works by placing the target ( 1.7m or 5"8' in height) between the horizontal and the top reclining line with numbers. On the reclining line locate the number closest to the point where the target touches the line. Multiply that number by 100; this is the distance to the target in meters. 1 meter = 1.11 yards.
I have marked off 100 meters. When I sight in on an object that is approximately 5'8", this object appears to only come up halfway between the horizontal line and the 2 ( 200 meters ). Shouldnt this object appear above the 200 meter mark on the recticle given the fact that it is at 100 meters?

You bring up an excellent point about the range finder. After reviewing the Russian and Chinese manuals they only use it for a distance of not less than 200 yards. It might be possible to range a target to 100 meters using one of the lower middle chevrons as the 100 meter point, but since different scopes have different numbers of chevrons, it would be up to you to determine which one to use. I'm going to edit my PSO manual to reflect this.

Thanks for the reply. i'll give your idea a try.

Awww come on guys....Berg is the only one that has any input on this particular scope? Is this an indication that those who own rifles with LPS or POSP scopes do not know how to use the range finder?

If I understand you right you are doing it wrong.
You do not use the chevrons for gaging distance unless it is very very very very far...like in outer space....Just kidding... You use the bdc for that..Estamating range/distance.. And your turret.. If you are zreroed correctly you will use only the top chevron. The other chevrons are for wishfull thinking like the extra ticks on an AK rear sight beyond 3oo meters.
Those chevrons are for when you are maxed out on revolutions to 1000 meters. then you use the chevrons for 1100 1200 1300 1400meters...

Seadog,
If I understand you correctly, are you talking about the four verticle chevrons in the center of the reticle? If so, I havent messed with those yet. I only need one subject at a time to keep me confused...Ha!
They way I understand the manual, they are indicating that you use the Reclining Line... 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 10 on the left side of the scope for range estimation. See attachment below.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks for the input.

you put a man between the numbers on the left that go 10,8,6,4,2.when his feet are on the bottom straight line and his head touching the curved line.if his head is touching the 2 on the curved line and his feet are on the straight line he is 200 meters away.you will have your rifle zeroed at 100 meters.all you do is turn the top turret to the number 2 which represents 200 meters and fire.it is the same up to 1000 meters.forget about all the other cheverons unless you are a military sniper.most of the users are target shooters or hunters.before you do this zero your rifle at 100 yards and then set the turrets to the number zero.do this by loosingthe 2 screws that hold the silver part of the turret and rotate the top of the turret which is black and tigthen the 2 outside screws.leave the middle 1 alone.check out this link will help you.

If the scope is zeroed at 100m and the top turret set to "0" then firing at a target at 200m should have the top turret dialed to "1".
I have enough issues with my PSL and am of the belief that my side rail has been installed at an forward down angle. READ - A stright line of sight through the dead center of the scope should intersect the bullet arc twice. The first time at approx 25m, and the second as the bullet starts to drop at 100m. Mine intersects at more like 75m and 200m. Ergo my fired round is still climbing hard at 100m, not dropping.
I have tried to set my scope several times zeroing at the "1" on the top turret for 100m and when I move out to 200m with the top turret set to "2", the POI is stupid high, like 6-7" (ironically corrected if I set the top turret to "0"). If I zero the scope on the "0" on the top turret, then my POI would be off the target stand at 200m. Watch the amount of movement your scope reticule has dialing from "0" to "1" let alone "2".
