Gunruner
Hi Folks. Here's the skinny on what I received from AIM for $598.00 shipped: Lots of free grease. Two 10 round magazines both with serial numers not matching the rifle(fit function fine). Four pocket magazine pouch green canvas and new never used. One scope cover, nylon with heavy leather end caps, arsenal stamps on small end and 3 places on nylon. Large leather end cap had disk glued to outside with PSL/S.D. 2175/L00399 in large black pen. One tin oil bottle generic. One tubular cleaning kit with only a punch inside. One very dry leather sling tied with hemp string. One used scope, all screws showing alot of work. Glass is bright and very clear! Both rubber covers intact. Was told by sales guy that they did not have eyecover rubber but this one did. Great news to me was the small (old) hang tag tied to the scope had the scope serial # and the rifle serial# on it. Scope was dated 1978.
Rifle itself: Screwed on break(tack welded). Bayonet lug with only one wing demilled(easy fix, if I even need to). Very low gloss parkerization on entire rifle. Barrel shows military finning of the outside barrel not smooth gloss of commercial barrels. Handguard & forend wood is new and of yellow birch(yuck). Receiver dated 1976. Stamped serial numbers matching on Dust cover(forced), carrier and gas tube. No serial number on bolt just the number 5. Original number on rear of dust cover and numbers on safety & main spring latch do not match. Buttstock original military laminate reworked with a dark walnut finish. Butt plate and pistolgrip cap are new. Very smooth action once I cleaned all the grease and dirt out of it. New piston. Bore and chamber chrome plated and pristine. Magazines were literally full of grease as was rifle.
I will attempt to post pictures. I rejuvinated the leather sling with "Sno-Seal" and it looks pretty good now. The only thing I will do to this rifle, other than shoot it, will be to remove the forend/handguard wood and finish in dark walnut to match the buttstock. I'm very pleased and as a collector of military guns it is exactly what I wanted. I hate "Military" rifles that show no use and have no history. If I would have wanted a completely new rifle I wouldn't be happy with what appears a very nice arsenal rebuild............Mike P.S. 4 extra mags on the way from APEX. Gave up on pics(sigh)
