View Thread: Ammo which is the best

Ok I need to pick up some ammo for my yugo m70 and was curious what you all felt was the best ammo to shoot for the price. This is for target practice, but I am also going to hold on to about 500 rounds for the end of the world....kidding. The choices are:

Wolf FMJ
Brown Bear FMJ
Silver Bear FMJ

Please let me know what you guys think.
thanks

Any one of them will do.I have all of them and they all work fine. The silver bear is a little bit more accurate but not enough to write home about.

Barnul was the best for me in .223 or 7.62x39 in a AK when using Russian ammo.
best ammo i've ever shot in 7.62x39 AK was Finnish Lapua ammo. not so easy to find anymore but was imported back in 1993-94 when they quit bringing in chinese ammo. going rate then was 21 bucks a 100.

There all about the same, depends who you talk to.

personally I am stocked up on wolf.

The best is the one that is the cheapest at the time of purchase. I have shot Barnaul, all flavors of Wolf and recently Golden Tiger. No discernible difference in any of it, except price. I bought what was cheapest and available at the time. Currently, I have mostly Golden Tiger.

As far as accuracy there's not a huge difference. The Golden Tiger is about the best quality of everything. The Silver Bear has high corrosion resistance. The Brown Bear is closest to military ammo. The painted coating can foul the chamber if not cleaned well but keeps the steel cases from rusting. The Wolf has primers that are prone to being pierced. The Wolf polymer coating doesn't protect the steel cases from corrosion very well but it doesn't foul the chamber like Brown Bear can. The Wolf powder can be a bit smelly. When I can't get Golden Tiger I try to get Silver Bear. If I can't get that I'll get the Brown Bear. I avoid the Wolf ammo but it usually shoots alright. golden Tiger might be the most accurate followed by the Bears but not a huge difference even compared to Wolf depending on the rifle.

I use all of those makes...The only real preference I have is the Golden Tiger, and that is only because I happen to favor the color and pattern of the box it comes in...I keep my rifles clean, not the cleanest though, so the coating matters not to me. I agree on the accuracy being about the same on all of them.

My RPK was penetrating wolf primers until I slightly altered the firing pin profile. None of my other AK's suffered from this though.

I have to disagree about accuracy. Silver Bear has Match ammo which is as good as any match I've ever shot. I have a friend that shoots long range matches and uses nothing but SB match.223. She has almost had to rethink that, with the ammo shortage. I have some of it and it's great. I'd rather have it than Black Hills or anything else I've ever shot, except Atlanta Arms. It seems to be cleaner than Wolf or the Brown Bear also. I'd put it beside Golden Tiger in x39. I haven't used GT in .223, but I'm sure it would be good. I like the Hotshot in x39 too!

I use Wolf Mil Classic for training, and this stuff (http://www.grafs.com/product/261082) for my "Go to" weapons[/url].

Might try some of the Ulyanovsk next.
