View Thread: PSL cover

I've got a PSL and the first time I took it out, worked great. Cleaned and reassembled after. Then, the next time I took it out, the rear cover keeps flying off after each shot. I've made certain it is properly seated, even with a rubber mallet to be sure. Its on there, its latched on the button, and I could not remove it with my hands if i wanted to...so, something else must be going on. Anyone with similar experience or can offer advice?
THANKS

Is the recoil spring guide seated properly in the rear "trunnion?"

I wonder if the spring assembly is sticking in the carrier??? Could the whole spring assembly get bound up in the carrier, then only partially return pulling the release button inside of the cover??? Man that was a tough question to type!!!?????

I think it's probably not locked in the front correctly.

Sometimes you have to work the spring around a little and the spring will pop out a little more on the back of the dust cover. You could work it around a little while pushing down on the dust cover. I have a couple that are really tight. I also had a kit that the dust cover was bent and chewed up a little on the bottom and it looked like it was locked in but would slide off every time you shot it. I had to get a different dust cover for that one.

Dude stop cleaning the rifle! The next time you clean it, it is going to fall apart!

Did you changed from light ball to heavy ball ammo?

Definitely something changed since the 1st time you fired the rifle.

How well did you cleaned it? Did you took it all apart?

Good point. Maybe it's too clean. Throw some mud in the action, maybe some leaves. lol.

The heavy loads have been reported to damage the PSL. The Wolf and Bear(s) that have 174 - 200 gr bullets are too heavy. Alot of what I have heard/read said that if you stay in the 147 gr weight bullets you will have less wear and tear. Have you noticed any peening on the bolt? Or reciever damage in the rear trunion? I put a shock buff in mine and it seemed to help with the battering of the bolt.
