View Thread: Side rail mounting problem

nameless
I am trying to mount a PK-01v on my SAR2. The mount slides onto the rail, but when I engage the lever it doesn't hold when the mount is centered on the rail. If I move it off center so that the lever thing is pushing against the parts of the rail that extend out the farthest, I can't close the lever and it really feels like that's not the way it's supposed to work. I need help here because I just can't figure out how to make this work. Thanks.

Sounds like that scope is not compatible with that rail.

Rails are not all the same. There are differences in many of them.

You might have to switch out the rail or the scope.

So, which mount do I need? And what kind of mount is the one I've got?

Looks like a warsaw pact rail like on the WASR's

I would go to this site and mail them and ask if they can hook you up with a rail that will fit that model of scope, or vise versa and sell you a scope to fit that rail.

Turns out I have the right mount but I had a fundamental misunderstanding of how the mount works. Tantal ( http://www.avtomats-in-action.com/index.html ) graciously set me straight and walked me through it. Great guy!

thanks for posting the outcome. I am now not as ignorant as I was yesterday. :)

For the benefit of anyone who might not realize how the mount works (as I didn't):

The lever serves to turn a screw that moves the upper and lower portions of the rails on the mount closer together or farther apart, depending on which way you're turning the lever. The idea is that the upper and lower rails on the mount slide onto the rail on the receiver and when you turn the lever to the tighter position, it flexes the rails on the mount slightly and they grip onto the receiver rail. It's necessary to adjust the lever (and thus the screw inside the mount) so that when you've got the lever closed it is applying enough tension on the mount rails so they get a firm grip on the receiver rail. Instructions for how to adjust the mount are on Tantal's web site.

Now that I've got it adjusted properly it feels rock solid.
