View Thread: Have barelled action off a Westinghouse 91 Mosin, need the rest
KernelKrink
A friend pulled a barelled action out the other day, wanting me to make a rifle out of it. It's a Westinghouse hex receiver model 91 Mosin Nagant. I have the barelled action, bolt, trigger, etc, just as if you had field stripped it out of the stock. Unfortunately, no stock, triggerguard, screws, etc. Anybody know a source for these?

Kernel..there is one source of parts, but the name escapes me at the moment...I checked my bookmarks.
I'd list on Gunboards want to buy forum, and also post in the Mosin nagant rifle forums(sparate and on GB)..I'd be really surprised if those packrats didn't have as much junk as we do AK stuff
Hope this helps
Even E bay has parts listed

lucky dog, i would love to find a Remington or Westinghouse proofed Mosin.
saw a Westinghouse at a estate sale about 2 months ago, bore was dark but the rest was good and it had no importer marks. my guess it was sold here in the states back around 1918-1920 when the contract was cancelled by the communists.
2 idiots started bidding on it and run the price up to 300, then can have it for that.

Not familiar with the Mosin variations, is this 91/30 designation stock going to fit the 91 Westinghouse?

I'm not sure if the stocks interchange. The 91 has a hex receiver and the 91/30 has a round receiver, but the stocks may or may not interchange.
KernelKrink
The listings for the 91/30 stocks show both hex and round receiver styles, the one in the link above is for a hex.

I don't why a hex receiver stock shouldn't fit. There may have been some hex receiver rifles updated to 91/30 specs but the hex receivers should be the same. Maybe they are late production stocks for replacement on 91 hex receivers but I wouldn't call them 91/30 rifles.

Some history here says some hex receivers were used for some early 91/30's but 91/30's were suppose to have round receivers, or rather round receivers had been designed for the 91/30 in 1930 but didn't completely replace the hex receivers until 1935 and 1936 depending on the factory.

They have an "ask a question" button on their site, so I did. Hopefully the answer will be I can use it.
BTW, Tenn Gun Parts uses Paypal for payment processor. When I ordered from them the Paypal invoice listed the obviously named gun parts. I thought Paypal didn't process gun related items as corporate policy?

Kern, mind if I ask what the rest of the parts are proofed?
I found a Finnish westinghouse hex gun, with a tikka barrel. and a hodge-podge of defferent bolt proofs.
Anyway N.E.W.'s are great shooters, you'll love it.
KernelKrink
Not my gun, a friend wound up with it somehow and wants to make it a shooter again. Don't have it handy to check for proofs.

I just wondered what kind of rifle your friend would like?
If he/she wants original-like rifle what kind of he/she would want? 91? 91/30?
Does he/she want a sporter? Or even some kind of sniper variant? Or maybe even TAK85-copy?
KernelKrink
He just wants a rifle that goes bang. Wound up with an origianl 91 TG and a 91/30 complete stockset. Other than some of the inletting on the tang and TG not being perfect, it all fit together just fine.

OK. I thought that there are large variety of regular stocks for Mosins. And you were looking something specific or customizing one for friend. I am doing one for myself and building another one for friend. Sort a long-term project (the one for me). Other is much more short-term.
