View Thread: Hammer and trigger axis pins...Updated !!!

Hey,could anyone please tell me what the diameters of these pins are?Especially at,or in the locking portion?
A little back story....
I HATE that shepperds pin!!! So i was gonna replace it with the Krebs plate.anyway,it was not a drop in replacement
and I ended up snapping the plate I got in half.I had seen somewhere else about putting little hitch pins on these
2 pins to hold them in place.
I am strongly considering this route unless I am convinced otherwise.
Or maybe some of you have done this yourself and can tell me what size hinge pin to get.
Thanks a bunch guys.

Do you mean hitch pin?

The simple answer to your question is to take a pivot pin to the hardware store with you for fitting.

I have had nothing but trouble with the Krebs plate & sheppeards hook,
I have converted 3 saiga's same pins and I love the little E clips get at carolina shooters supply.

Oops! I did mean hitch pins.
Are the little e-clips a pain to use?

Yes, e-clips are a pain.
you have to get the exact right ones (otherwise, you'll end up deciding to use two, and one will always be slipping out of place)
You'll have lots of fun getting them into place, too (bloody fingers come to mind)

If you order the E clips from css they will be the right size and you shouldn't have any problems but the hitch pins are good also. I recommend the sheppeards crook. It may be a pain to put in but the other two methods are just kinda improvised installation methods.

Not at all they are easier to put in than the plate or the shepards hook, get the ones from Carolinashooterssupply.com, You imstall them witha pair needle nose pliers so simple a kid can do it.
both times I used the hook and plate they came loose when firing the rifle very fast had parts all over the inside. jst my exp.

A) Something was wrong with the retainer plate
B) Something was wrong with your retainer plate installation method
C) Something is wrong with your rifle.
The retainer plates (if designed properly, and not cut out on the side of the road somewhere by some blind chinaman) are failsafe.
I personally don't like them because they're .50 cents worth of material being sold for $10.00 and up (and I make my own L-wire retainers).

Hey guys,in case it is of interest,I went to Home Depot
and found that the 3/16" hitch pins fit perfectly. They
cost .50 cent for two of them.
They look just like the ones Nalioth posted.
Thanks for all of them help. :small_gri

I use the spring for the auto sear. If you cut it at the coil and leave one coil it works great. Bend it where the 180 degree turn is and make it about 90 degrees. The coil of of spring fits perfect on the selector lever to hold it in place. When you put your hammer and trigger in the pins lock in great.

Nothing wrong with the gun
I'm not perfect here but I tryed 3 differant plates, pins ,hooks all failed. the e-clips have about 500 rounds on them and still together.
I really think the slot in the pins was wrong size but they are history and all is well now.
I understand that mileage may vary on all this stuff

Hi,I did put the 3/16" hitch pins in.I hope this will not give me any problems.
For me it was just a bear to deal with that sheperds hook.Maybe I was doing it wrong, I don't know.
And when I tried to install the plate,it was not a drop in,the thing snapped right in half.
Anyways I hope this will make a good rifle better. :small_gri

Zip tie the legs of the hammer spring behind the face of the hammer before removing the crook/pins. It takes the tension off the installation and stops the bleeding from the end of the springs legs.

I did try crossing them over the face of the hammer.Even with dental picks,
it was MUCH too aggrivating. It was not really the coiled springs fault,I just
couldn't get to where I could pull or push the hook out.I know I am whining,
but I just hate to be so frustrated with something simple.
