I like the price of surplus but I can't shoot the steel core ammo at the range. Does somebody sell 5.45x39 ammo that doesn't stick to a magnet?

BigBob, evidently the milsurp ball ammo is prohibited by your shooting range.
Plan B is to acquire any commercial 5.45mm ammo you can find, be it Wolf or Purple Bear or whatever, in 60- or 70-grain varieties, FMJ or HP. Those options are stuffed full of lead tho I suspect the bullet jacket is of an alloy East Europeans are fond of called Topac which does include some steel in it, not enough to start a fire or to perforate a target stand, mind you, but enough to attract a magnet. Just tell an inquisitor of this fact and you should be good to go.
Enjoy.
