View Thread: Improved Rain suit with liner, any good for winter weather?

warhound
My local surplus store has M65 coats in stock, as well as Improved Rain suits. The M65 liner attaches to the inside of the IRS. The M65 coats are a lot more expensive than the IRS and liner, and they are not waterproof. Does anybody know if the IRS and liner will be good enough for winter weather in Ohio?

If its a rubberized rainsuit, then the M65 would probably be better. In real cold, the suit would be kinda stiff and crickly,I should think. For the best of both worlds, look at goretex surplus parkas. They are pretty cheap right now.I prefer a fleece liner over the old nylon M65 type liners.
I would determine exactly what size you need,in military terms, and look on ebay, using the saved search function. In a couple weeks or so,you will find a deal. Also recommend using E-snipe.

If you buy surplus goretex try and buy new.Used ones almost always seem to have pin hole leaks and need to be patched.I use a German goretex parka as my outer shell.I'm Just a bit over six feet and around two hundred pounds skinny and broad shouldered. The parka does not leave much room for layering. The link below has the German parkas and British military police parkas on page two.
