View Thread: Who has *nice* '74's in stock?

LH2
I don't want a Tantal, but a Russian or Bulgarian '74.

Is anybody stocking the SGL31 right now?

Open to suggestions on where to find a nice AK-74. Thanks...

From the looks of it, K-Var has the Saiga SGL 31-61 now, for $799. I doubt anyone has one yet, so there may not be any reports on build quality as yet, but considering the reputation of the company making it, I wouldn't be too nervous about it, were it me and I had the money and wanted one.

I'd actually rate the build quality of my Interarms/High Standard Tantal as better than my TGI built Bulgarian.

Don't forget that our very own Gunplumber has an amazing selection of fine Bulgarian '74's:

Lancaster has an introductory price on their AK-74s $649-699 depending on the furniture. They have a chrome lined barrel and scope rail standard. They will build them as requested so the pictures on the site are only a portion of what they offer.

Atlantic has Bulgarians from In Range in stock which are apparently just a better version of the Tennessee ones also in stock.

With all the choices out there, LH2 should have no problem finding a 74 to his liking.

Atlantic is sold out of the Bulgys from In Range. That's it for them...

I live not far from Lancaster, and just sold my Lancaster Tantal.

I don't want another Lancaster. Not a fan of that company.

whats wrong with lancaster 74s?

Buy a saiga and convert it. You will save yourself hundreds. $379 for the gun, $80 for the front sigh block, $85 for the bolt on hg retainer, or buy a ralied forearm for $100 and dont forget the $35 for the bullet guide. You will have a brand new factory made ak-74

379+80+100+35= $594

That is better than any of what is listed on line. Oh I forgot if you go with the front sight block you will need a flash hider add on another $25

What about a stock set and other 922r compliance parts?

Pistol grip, fixed or folding stock, fire control group, gas piston, got all that in the ever growing parts box ;) Sounds like a lot less work than building up from a flat. :cool_smal

jlcasagranda
Yeah the compliance parts will run you a bit more, much of it will come with the trigger . So for a railed forearm, and a us made front sight block, flash hider, trigger group, and the bullet guide I could be wrong but you would have all your us parts at that point. Best place to check for sure would be saiga-12.com

Unknown as to whether it fits the subjective value range of "nice", but I just noticed that AIM is now carrying TGI built Bulgarian AK-74s for $499.95.

Not a thing is wrong with mine. I bought one last month from Lancaster and I'm very pleased with the fit and finish of this rifle. I haven't made it out to the range yet, but I expect it to shoot every bit as good as it looks.. :)

Any chance of pictures or more information on it? There are literally only two or three examples of their '74 build on the net, one is in plum and another I believe in red.

Here is all the information from the Lancaster site:

BULGARIAN AK 74 WITH SCOPE RAIL INSTALLED STANDARD. WOOD COMPLETELY REFINISHED TO LANCASTER STANDARDS. 5.45 X 39 CAL

Model 7174 Black Synthetic Stock $ 659.00

Model 7175 Plumb Synthetic Stock $ 659.00

I just got my bulgy ak74 from Lancaster yesterday and its a beauty. I haven't had a chance to shoot it but I'm sure it will be fine. There customer service is outstanding and I would buy another rifle from them. I got my 74 with original bulgy funiture and 4 mags shipped for $750.

asianak
sorry for the crappy pics. My cellphone was the only thing available.

You can also score good deals on forums and gunbroker if you are patient. I bought a Krebs AKS74 last week on another board and watched an Arsenal slr105 go for like 680.00 on gb.

Sure! http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1434/lancasterak74i.jpg

This is my rifle. Got it with the plum synthetic. The plum furniture was original Bulgarian, not the US made replacement stocks. It was a little darker in color than I hoped, so dark that you could only really see the true color in outdoor lighting.

I've since added Bulgarian wood that I refinished myself. The lower hanguard isn't a good match color wise even after bleaching it, so I have a upper and lower Bulgarian handguard set from IronWood inbound. Will stain it dark blond to match the stock I have on it now. Also changed out the pistol grip to a dark brown instead of the orangish looking one in the pic.

The synthetic furniture was good quality, I just personally wanted wood I had finished myself on it. No pics of that till I'm finished though! ;)

AIM did!

My Lancaster 74 will arrive next month, pictures will be posted of course.

JPanzer ... I've seen that rifle before! You are dominating the search results for Lancaster AK-74s!

Ha! posted the pic here and over at the Saiga 12 board. Don't think its been anywhere else. Funny about dominating the search results! http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/lachen/laughing-smiley-004.gif

Think it's bad now, just wait till I get the Bulgarian wood finished and installed! ;)
