View Thread: Rate of fire and heat

How many rounds can you get off with your semi-auto AK without bump firing? My local range doesn’t allow rapid fire, but I was able to get off 60 a minute.

Ever at that low rate of fire, the barrel of my AK got extremely hot.
Is this normal?

Just pulling the trigger as rapidly as you can? Maybe 2-3 shots a second or so.

Heat takes time to dissipate. Every shot is putting heat energy into the bbl, it takes a substantially longer time for it to leave it. Firing just 10 shots will make most centerfire bbls hot enough to burn you, and it will take minutes to cool off to a comfortable level. There is a video on youtube of a guy firing a full auto dealer sample AK with several drums and then a 30rd mag or two as fast as he could change mags and dump them. The forearm caught on fire from the bbl heat.

That's the one! Ahh, the good old days of $150 dealer sample AKs and $70 per thousand ammo. :cry_small

I cant understand why anyone would want to do that to a legal emma-gee

Stupidity.

That, and another one is only $150. Dealer Samples are cheap from a kit.

If you ever go to Knob Creek, ask about "Constant Lamont", he is usually right inside the main gunshow building closest to the firing line. He is famous for melting beltfed MG bbls.

Man you can burn through alot of ammo on fullauto.
