View Thread: Blanks launching in Yugo

I see Center Fire has blanks and its free shipping right now so I was wondering- I got a launcher spigot for my M64 and if I can find or build some practice rifle granades would these blanks be appropriate? I know nothing about blanks, thanks!

Most likely not. Training blanks have much less power than grenade launching blanks. A practice rifle grenade with a regular blank will go about 10 yards. Grenade launching blanks are a bit pricier also. Hi-vel has them in several calibers. I've read about guys making their own launching blanks using empty cases and a little bit of black powder and working up to an acceptable power. The launchers have a little explosive propellant since you don't have a bullet to build up pressure behind.

On the other hand, If you make something that's much lighter weight than a practice grenade, you might get decent results with a training blank. 5.56 blanks are pretty lame, but 7.62NATO blanks have some real oomph. 7.62x39 might have enough power for a fun game of lawn jarts.

If you can keep the weight of the dummy at about that of a couple of golf balls it should work OK.

Here is what I do....
Take a pineapple grenade launcher adapter... and top it off with a tennis ball, or raquet ball with a little bit of lead shot in it. This will make a projectile that almost perfectly matches the trajectory of the real deal when used with normal blanks (since the projectile is lighter). I can hit a campaign sign at 150 yards no problem (the huge 3' by 6') ones
