View Thread: Rebuilding Galil Magazines

So I bought a Golani recently and picked up some extra mags for it so I have 4 right now. Some of the internals were pretty well rusted or gummed up with junk. I was able to clean up most of them to appear somewhat decent but one of the springs seems pretty far gone and will probably cause the mag to not feed properly. I am wondering if anyone knows of any rebuild kits out there for Galil mags or even just a source for springs. Or if you don't know of a source for Galil specific magazine internals has anyone used internals for another magazine that worked well? I thought I read somewhere that someone used AR15 extra power springs in the 35 round mags and they worked fine. The other concern is if I wanted to replace the followers in the mags. I didn't see anything like that around although again I believe I ran across some information that maybe the green followers for AR mags will work ok with some modification. I'd like to try to avoid spending the $150+ on an AR mag adapter if I can. Any help would be appreciated.

you did not say what caliber but im guessing .223 because you said about AR adaptor. im getting Galil Orlite 35 rd .223 mags locally for 29 bucks in new condition or Galil steel 30 rd mags that are new for the same price. im not sure where he got these but they just came about a month ago to replace the ones he sold out of at 25 bucks a pop, and yes the Orlite 35 rd mags have hebrew writing on them.
personally would it not be easier just to get new mags while you still can, do a bit of google searching and you will find them.

223 is correct. I forgot to list that in my post. I suppose I could find some new or newish mags but it's also cheaper to simply rebuild the ones I have already rather than spend anywhere form $30-who knows how much on some other mags. Maybe I'll just suck it up and buy the AR mag adapter and have the option to use two different mags.
Edit - 9/24/09 - I ended up ordering some extra power Wolf AR-15 mag springs and installed them in my Galil mags. I simply flipped them upside down compared to how one would install them in an AR mag and put them in the Galil mags. There seems to be ample pressure on the followers to feed rounds reliably with these. I just need to get out to the range sometime soon and try them out.
