View Thread: Newbie question re: Ulyanovsk 7.62x39 ammo

horatiodreamt
Hello. I apologize for the newbie question since I'm new to this forum.

I see that J&G Sales has the white-box, Ulyanovsk-brand ammo in 7.62x39 caliber. Is this ammo made by the same Russian outfit that makes Wolf? Have any experienced hands on this forum used this Ulyanovsk fodder? If so, any opinions on it?

Thanks for any info. :angel_sma

I've never used it ,but heard its good ammo.

Great source for ammo info. Tula actually makes wolf ammo. - http://www.makeyourowngear.com/Articles.php?action=detail&g=content1146681053 - I picked up some older Ulyanovsk recently, haven`t had a chance to try it yet.

I shot 4 boxes of it this weekend and had no problem accuracy is good I think it is cleaner than Wolf but like most Russky ammo the word clean is relative

I shot a few boxes a few weeks ago, it ran fine, only comment I can make is it smells a bit odd, kind of an amonia like odor.

I never had problems with it on the range. Accurate too.

This dealer had new 1,000 rd cases in yesterday:

That smell probably means it's corrosive. It's the same smell I get when I shoot the Bulgarian 5.45mm ammo I have thousands of.

Lumox
Well, they are advertising it as non-corrosive. :straightf

They can advertise anything they want, if it's milsurp or made in Russia, just always assume that it's corrosive and go forward. All it means is better cleaning discipline must be maintained.
