Gently turn it so the top of the hand guard (only the wood should be moving) is now pointing downwards and it should come out with ease. Thats how I removed mine.

PSL? if so Tigr is correct. Notice at the front and back of the wood guard there are recessed areas (portions that fit in the metal flanges) notice they are round all the way around the guard where as the metal flanges just drop straight down.
this allows the wood guard to spin in the assembly. grab the gas tube tightly and with even pressure rotate the wood guard portion around the gas tube. 180 degrees (it'll be tight so be carefull) If you get it all the way flipped the tube should fall out from the guard.
Be careful though, squeeze this guard too tightly and it will snap right down the grain line. good luck.

i used a standard 1" wrench to get a good grip on mine where it goes up against the sight block when its installed, and it came off real easy. its just like taking the furniture off a AK, a very large AK. LOL.

Thanks so much, I spent an hour trying to figure it out, Ill try it

There wasn't a clip or anything in mine. It may be a hassle but if you could take a picture it may help determine if something is different on your PSL's handguard.
For the most part the wood isn't held in place by anything other than the shape of the gas tube flanges. Turning it so it isn't connected to the flanges will release it.

just like my WASR, the PSL top handguard has a little clip that kinda 'locks' the peice to the gas tube.
I was only able to turn mine 25% of the way before i felt the wood say "no more". so i gently tapped it with a rubber mallet and it came off.
I used my dreamed to trim down the wood so it went back on easily and also comes off easier now.

mine also had a spacer on it to tighten it. maybe each rifle is different?

weird, mine has a spacer too. is there a circular relief cut inside top of the guard? I speculate the clip simply helps the guard stay out away from the gas tube. also you will find this little clip deal helps keep pressure even while turning the guard. the guard tends to get bound from front to back, wile bound there is NO WAY it's gonna come out. so you have to get the guard even from front to back and try again. I'm gonna try to video this. you'll probably get it before i tape it! :rofl_smal

I put a little beeswax on the wood where it contacts the retainers when putting the h.g. back on, makes it much easier going on & coming off the next time.
