Depends on how paranoid you are, or how smart.
They're legal to own.......now.

AK full auto parts are legal to own. M16 full auto parts can be put in any semi auto (or any non-full auto) firearm. This applies to all firearms not just AR15's. So keeping M16 full auto parts around may not be a good idea. This came about because a guy got arrested and charged with making a machine gun with a semi auto AR15 built with M16 parts. The ATF couldn't get it to reliably double and the jury found him not guilty.
His defense was it's cheaper to build with surplus parts. The ATF claimed because there are grandfathered unregistered drop in auto sears he was making a machine gun but they didn't find an auto sear.
After that trial the ATF had M16 full auto parts banned from use due to the unregistered grandfathered drop in auto sears and because they claim permitting their use promoted theft from the US military and stolen government parts were difficult to ID.

wa state prohibits f/a parts. ca's legal wording is subject to interpretation, a case could be made for construvtive posession here. most guys here treat them like they're radioactive. (i think otherwise but don't want to open that wormy can here)
w/o a reciever capable of accepting them there is no federal violation. a 3 hole reciever is itself a violation.

from what i have read and i belive is posted elswere on this sight...................

ar15 and FA parts in most states are NOT alowed

Just a word of advice, when asking NFA questions be sure to state what type of firearm your question concerns.

Junk it? Why? Sell them instead if you worry.

Trash them - paint them bright colors with Testor's model paint and make them int Christmass orninments.
Wrist rocket ammo for the next anti-war rally.

IMOP: Legal or illegal, I have given them to class III dealers or destroyed them. I have ran in to too many ignorant law enforcement whom do not know the laws. The laws are too complex and convoluted to try and keep up with. I personally do not car to spend my precious money or time to debate the issue in any shape or form, especially in a court of law. Full auto in any regard is too expensive to feed and most are really not that much fun. My black powder cannon is much more fun and indisputably not full auto and legal.
