View Thread: Chunky Chicom SKS stock?

A guy just droped off a SKS for me to look at. Its still in cosmoline and doesn't look like its ever been shot. The weird thing about it is the wood grain doesn't look like most and its sort of square and boxy looking. Really looks like a Yugo but its still in the oil soaked shipping box with the serial number stamped in the end so I am sure nobody messed with it. Did China make those big stocks also? Considering the average soldier is a smaller person over there I didn't see why they would make bigger stocks? Thanks for any insight.

If I can get the camera charged up I will take some pics, can I email them to you? I don't have the foggiest idea what I do wrong but I can't post on this site. Thanks

This camera is not charging up, I think the battery is shot. I measured it next to a standard one and the main diff is the leading edge of the stock, where the metal end cap plate is, they notched it for the plate to fit but then the wood extends about 3/16 below it and is near square at the sides instead of round. Also, I can not see the arsonal because the stock comes up too high, its a triangle but not sure what numbers. The serial Number is also almost obstructed but you can make it out. The wood looks like old growth southern pine, like you see in old houses, its not oil finnished like my SKS, its sanded well and has a shiney coat of what looks like orange shellac on it. The butt seems to be the exact size a standard, that large front forestock just makes the whole thing look big. Thanks

You have an interesting creature for sure. Sounds like an unfinished stock from your discription that someone modified and installed on the weapon.
The triangle on the side sounds like it is chinese. Wish I could Help you but Im at a loss. When you ever get the camera up and opperational some photos would shed some light for otheres to mabey help out with your mistery.
I know it sure has got me wondering and Id like a peek at it

Its not mine, a guy just left it here for me to look at, he wants to trade it for some sawmill work, will either get a pic while its here or sooner or later I will probably own it. Your probably right about it being not finnished fitting-maybe they missed that guy on the line and it went right into the shellac room? Thanks

Trade ? It's one you should hang onto (Even if it's a Stamped Reciever/pinned barrel Chinese) or Especially if it's different from the usuial ones in any way.
