View Thread: Rechamber tantal barrel?

bvd1
Someone asked if it's possible to have a tantal barrel rechambered to 5.56x45. I have not seen any replys yet. Does anyone Know? I can put a 5.45 round in the muzzle of my tantal and it swallows it to the case. The rifle is no good as it is. Hoping to salvage it somehow.

If you can, you would still need to modify your bolt, feed ramp(?), mags. I seen someplace selling new 5.45 barrells. Why not do that instead.

It's not as simple as it might first appear. The 5.45x39 case is larger in diameter toward the base of the case than .223 (5.56x45), so it's not just a matter of reaming the chamber. Best salvage option would be to look for a 5.45x45 bbl that is correct (as has been mentioned), since new US made ones now seem to be on the market (an original Tantal bbl might be even better, if one can be found for a reasonable price, which is a very large if...). Other than that, sell it, then look for a Bulgarian AK-74 or an Interarms/High Standard Tantal with the original Tantal bbl.
