View Thread: Stain on a Romak II

Va_AK
So I'm in the process of stripping, bleaching, and restaining a donkey dong grip and I'm wondering what the correct stain is to match my upper handguard.

Anyone know?

Thanks

It's pretty hard to match the original stain. I would recommend refinishing all the wood so that you have a good match. There are several threads on it here as well as a good how-to on Ironwoods website. Sorry I can't help more.

Good idea. Bleaching the old romy lower will be the only way to get it light enough for a blonde stain correct?

I haven't done a blonde stain but I would think so. I used this citrus stain remover I got at walmart once on a nasty Mosin and it got the wood completely bare. Might give it a try.

Romanian furniture is not stained. It is finished in shellac. Amber Shellac will give a very light tawny brown color. If you want darker use some TransTint added to the shellac. Multiple coats create a draker and deeper color.
