View Thread: Current PSL year build?
jason12
Hi,
Could you guys tell me what the build year is for the current stock of PSLs at AIM or other dealers?
Thanks
Slick
It seems to vary.. I got my PSL in February from a company that resells Century rifles and mine is a 1980. Some of the guys that just got theirs report 1975 as year of manufacture - so I think it's probably mixed bag on original production year.

I bought mine for AIM and it is a 1976 model but was in cherry condition and had matching serial numbers. The only down side and I don't feel it was AIMs fault was the magazines were really rusty and one didn't feed well. But for 100.00 shipped you can get 4 new magz from Centerfire systems.

Is one year preferred over another? Quality wise. Is it possible to ask the dealer to hand pick specific year then?
BTW are they all really new (old stock)?
Sorry for so many questions. I am thinking of getting one. Just afraid I might get a lemon.
Thanks.

Jason call them and ask. I spoke with them a few times on the phone before I even bought my PSL and ammo from them. They were very helpful and didn't just pass me off like some other companies and tell me to use the internet for ordering and information.

Got one from AIM, Dated 1976. Is not a new gun but milsurp. Scope is dated 1978 and in used but excellent shape. Buttstock dark walnut color to the laminate. Forend and handguard wood was new blond and I stained to match buttstock. Muzzle break early screwed on type and I have bayo lug that works. Gun shoots 100% with 7 magazines and 80 rounds so far. I'm 100% satisfied so far..........Mike

All of the Century guns are made from whatever donor guns they can buy in Romania. If the Romanian company gets a bunch of '79's that's what they will replace the receiver shells on and ship to Century. In this case Century is the importer from and distributor of the guns made by the Romanian company Cugir Arme SA. In century's documentation they make reference to this as well, describing the rifles as "Military surplus" guns that should always be inspected prior to shooting.
I think all Cugir Arme does is replace the receiver shell / stamping (if its coming to the USA) and mill the markings from the front trunnions prior to refinishing and packing for export. They sell these guns elsewhere in the world where military proof marks are not allowed, this is probably why the left side of the front trunnion gets sanitized and re-stamped. The one I saw in Germany looked like the ones we can get here except it had no bayonet lug, the original receiver stamping was stil there but the arsenal mark on the bottom of the receiver ground off, polished, and refinished. The front trunnion was also scrubbed and needle stamped.

Or you can go to Apex and get "light rust" examples for $12. Got myself 4 just the other day and only one had any real rust on them and it was light. Be warned these seem to be rebuilt from old rusty mags and arsenal refinished as the pitting on some is reblued
