View Thread: Tantal Safety Removal NOBODY KNOWS HOW?

TedG954
What is the process for removing the Tantal safety?

Does the selector switch on the left side pose any particular difficulty?

Thanks.

So far, 23 people have read this post and I have to assume they're in the same boat as me.... wondering how to disassemble the two-sided safety on a Tantal.

With all the experience on this site, I thought someone would know how it's done.

More likely, 23 people who feel no pressing need to remove theirs (if they even have a Tantal) figured they'd pick up a tidbit of info if it presented itself. As the initiator, your assigned mission is to seek the truth and report back to us (we are known as the lardbutt brigade). :sidegrin_

There are people in the forums who build Tantals, so they would have to know by default. Gunplumber (Mark) over in the falfiles AK forum undoubtedly knows the answer:

Search engine usage NOBODY KNOWS HOW?

Not only has this been asked on this forum, it's been asked (and answered) on many other Ak-centric forums.

A manufacturer has even released a PDF answering it.

I'm pretty sure that there is a step by step on here somewhere, with pics too. If not contact John@JCDLEsales, he is a member that build tantals.

Thanks for the lead Maxhush.
Thanks for the tip Jeo.

Ted, not being a pric but Nalioth is correct. If you go to "Gunsmithing and Build it Yourself"... in the search box type in tantal selector or tantal safety... there is much info. In the future be more specific with your question. Is it an allready built rifle or a question on a build. You don't have to build it in a tantal configuration if you don't want. Buy a standard ak 74 receiver as well as a standard akm selector and you're on your way.

All we ask is RESEARCH before you ask the question.

If you have bought a Tantal kit, build it on a DCI Tantal receiver. Don't butcher it by building it on a standard AK74 receiver. If you have a kit gun built, you know that the safety selector and the left side switch are not connected together. They easily are rotated and removed from the gun.

Swoopster
AKM, how is a tantal butchered by building it on a 74 receiver. It would be one thing if we were talking about fuctioning parts, but if not, why not?

I guess the question would be is it possible to remove the left dies selector from the safety on a Store bought Tantal?
I have not seen or held a CAI or any other tantal.
On my home buil tantal, turn the burst selectoer so the peg on it lines up with the hole in the receiver, and pull apart.

Only done it once but IIRC you remove it just like a normal AK safety. Rotate it up to vertical and pull it out. If you have the non-functional selector switch in a Nodak Spud NDS2-T Tantal receiver, once the safety lever has been removed the selector can then be rotated to a position that will allow it to be removed as well. I believe the selector lever is pointing down in this position.

LINK REMOVED

Now why do you want to link offsite, when the answer this guy seeks is here many times over?

For Pete's sake, people, it's called "Google".

I can understand using this board for conversations, but there shouldn't be anyone - ANYONE - having to ask for known knowledge. The search function (or Google) can be used to find the answers to 99% of the technical questions posed here.
