View Thread: Ultimak and corrosive ammo

Hi all, just got an ultimak scout mount for my ak 74, but I'm a little concerned about cleaning the front gas block of corrosive primer residue with the mount in place. Do you think I can get by with pouring some ballistol and water down there and letting it run through the gas tube and out the barrel or do I need to remove the mount and really scrub? Am I looking for trouble trying to use this mount and corrosive ammo together? Your input is appreciated!

I just had the same querstion about the ultimak and corrosive ammo. I asked Mark at ARS about this and he told me a good washing with hot water and then blow out with compressed air after the range and all should be happy.

The ultimak are a good solid mount. Cleaning is the only issue. I only mounted one on my 47's and don't shoot corrosive ammo. The removal of the tube is not supposed to change the zero. Who knows. I run hot soapy water with a brush to clean the salts off followed by ballistol. I would suggest a turkey baster so you don't drown your opitics.
