View Thread: My new CAI Tantal

Hammerem
Greetings to all,

I'm new here though I have lurked for a coupl of weeks before signing up.

I decided to take a risk and buy a Tantal from TNT guns in Memphis Tennesse.

After speaking with some of the folks there i was reasonable comfortable with my purchase. (they told me they stand behind their product that they had sold many tantals and had no complaints from customers.)

I've only been able to shoot at targets approx. 25yrd out and havent had any keyholes in 90 rounds. Ive shot Silver bear 60 gr and 53 gr military ammo.

The tantal I bought has Serial# CS 3621. this number matches sevral other part on the gun.

There is also the # 1990 that preceeds the serial #, and the number 11 inside an oval circle.

The trigger is a Tapco G-2 and CAI Georgia is etched along the bottom of the barrel.

Our gun range her in Wilton, ME., has been closed for the entire summer so far due to some major construction and improvements- needless to say the weather has really slowed down progress.

I will report back on some longer range shots with the 53gr military ammo ASAP.

Again, a big howdy to all the members here. I'm glad to be here!

Welcome, sounds like you got lucky and got a good one!Just read another post a few days ago about somebody who got the latest "Alledgedly Fixed" type with a Y prefix and he put up a 25 yard Target and 1/2 of all shots keyholed!
Fortunately his dealer took it back!

I guess I did.

I told them I didn't want any CAI tantal with a low serial # they told me what the number was before it shipped.

I'm hoping for good flight ballistics when I can use the range. i don't really see the need for a bullet heavier than 60gr. I know the barrel has a 1 in 9 twist.

if I didn't have to be so budget conscience lately, I would have preferred the IA/High Standard tantal build.

My only critique so far on the weapon: The sight picture sucks.

I wanted to post some of my gun's info so that others could compare and evaluate.

I have a 91/30 mosin- i pick it up, point it, cheek on stock, and that front sight is damn near perfectly lined up. I love that gun and my wife really likes her 91/30 as well. Very accurate.

Here's a quick and easy way to improve the sights. This is my IA Tantal with Scout Scope Mount for $69. Good luck with your new rifle.

Thanks TedG954,

yes , I read your post on your scope.

How much was the scope and mount altogether?

I'm looking for something that will work out to 150 -200 yards.

Anything beyond that I'll plink with my 91/30.

Best regards, Jeff

The reflex sells for under $100 on a bunch of sites. I'll eventually get an Eotech, but for now, this site improves my shooting up to 100 yds.
