View Thread: Tantal Questions

Hey everyone, first time poster here with three question.
1. I've been told that wz. 88 Polish Tantal Sporters require a different bayonet then the bulgarian counterparts because of a length difference in the muzzle break. I was wondering where I could find one of these bayonets and how much is a fair price for one?
2. Can the lower handgaurd the same Tantal be replaced by any regular handgaurd for an AK-47?
3. Does anyone know of a place to buy 10 or 20 round magazine for a 5.45x39? I've heard they exist, i've just never seen one.
Any help with these questions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

welcome!
1. the WZ.88 tantal will accept AK-74 bayos. type II and III. You can get them from copes for as cheap as 20 bucks IIRC.
2. The the lower HG can be replaced with an AKM HG.
3. you can get 10rd mags and 5 rd mags straight from century. 20rd mags i dont think exist.

The Tantal lower handguard has a tension spring plate in it. The handguard retainer won't work properly with other AK handguards due to the design of the retainer.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Allesennogwat, could I just place that spring plate in an AKM HG if kethcar thinks it will fit? And another quick question, where can I view a list of topics I have either made or posted on?

nah that little spring plate is too wide for an AKM lower HG.
If you take the heat shield out of a plastic HG it might work, but i wouldnt want to loose my heat shield.
I simply trimmed my AKM lower to fit snuggly so it wouldnt need spring tension to stay tight.

So where exactly did you have to trim it? I apologize if that is a stupid question, but I wouldn't want to buy a new part and start cutting off material liberally.

Supposedly, there were some prototypes but none are in marketplace.

In my experience.. when I get new grips, the little nub at the back of the HG that gets wedged between the trunnion and receiver.. and also the front of the HG that sits in the HG retainer will usually need to be fitted.
Go slow, dont take off too much material and check your fit often.

Thanks for the info.
