View Thread: Got my night scope today for my Dragunov

Pvt.Joker
Got my new 1PN34 in the mail today. Haven't tried it out yet (waiting until night) but it was in really nice shape, and the only accessories missing were the complete set of knobs (it came with the one for the Dragunov only). If it works as good as it looks, I am REAL happy with it.

A long time ago when russian NVDs were first coming into the country, I heard a rumor that they were poorly sealed and they would give the user eye cancer. I suspected this was a bogus story started by competitors who didn't like the low prices. Could there be any truth to it?

I seriously doubt it... If my understanding is correct, most of the inexpensive gen-1 NVD's are built using Russian tubes. So if that were the case, I'd expect that an awful lot of folks would have eye cancer by now. I picked up one of the gen-1 units from Costo a few years back and it's supposed to use a "premium" tube - and I'm VERY pleased that there's only one small dirt speck (near the outter edge) and the performance far exceeds my expectations after hearing that they didn't work all that well.

Mark, I had heard that too back in 1994 when I used to have my 1PN58. Never had any problems with it, and on the AK Forums, someone took one and tested it with a geiger counter to see. They said it didn't put out anything higher than background radiation, so that busted the myth as far as I am concerned.

Now if I could just find one of the 24 inch SVD barrels that wasn't $1,700 on Gunbroker... :D

Man that thing is HUGE. How much does it weigh? Looks awesome though. Congrats on your purchase.

for the money they are a steal.where else can you get a nv scope that works good and all the extras that come with it.here are pics of 50 and 100 yards with one of these scopes on a psl.the groups fall way within what they were designed for M.O.M=Minute Of Man.

I am considering buying one of these scopes also. Let us know how this scope works out and maybe some photos looking through the lens if you don't mind. :-)

Works like a charm. Only problem is, I need to get some more rechargable AA batteries as my only 2 are either in the scope, OR in the camera, so I can't take any through-the-lens photos at the moment. But it looks just like the photos on the link above.
