View Thread: PSL Scope Mount

I have read up and found only a handful of sites that offer a centered scope mount for use with a typical rifle scope. Kalinka is of course the most widely result I get when searching for these things; however, when searching for comments about them I've heard mainly bad things about them...also not having a phone number seems kinda strange. Many of the other sites are having problems recieving them from their supplier and of course the rest have gone out of busines...I would like to hear from people who have purchased a mount and swear by it. And for others in the same shoes as me we would like to hear from the people who cuss their mounts and have buyer remorse to help myself and the many other psl owners.
Thanks.
Common sense is no longer common.

I’ve ordered from Kalinka 3 times and am very satisfied with their service. All items were shipped promptly. I ordered one of the centered scope mounts from their “bargain bin” and it was much closer to center – but still not fully centered, but I was happy as the mount was of excellent quality and I’d heard many of the bare mounts are not made well. For the bargain – there was only a tiny scratch on it, so no problem.
I’m VERY pleased with my 8x42 PSOP as it’s a very nice scope for the money. I went ahead and ordered the package of all the colors of extra bulbs for it and the red bulb was quite dim. I emailed Kalinka, but didn’t hear anything, so I emailed them about 10-days later and the response I got said that they did see my first email and responded, but for some reason it never got to me. No biggie – they went out of their way to get me out a replacement bulb and even sent it to me prior to receiving the dim one back. That showed me a level of service and trust that few vendors match.
On that note, I have heard many tales of the red bulbs being dim – but that’s not something Kalinka has any control over. That they went out of their way to get my replacement sent to me fast tells me that they do care about their customer service, and I would order from them again without hesitation. I too was a bit apprehensive in placing my first order with them since as you mentioned – they don’t list a phone number and I heard some folks were real happy with them. I also had some questions that I would like to have spoken to someone about. In the end, I was able to find the answers by digging around on the Internet. So, all I can really say is that I’ve been satisfied with Kalinka and trust them.

I was also getting ready to order a 8x42 posp scope from them. I did order a rubber eye piece and scope cover for my new PSL since the one it came from was destroyed. They didn't have them in stock and I emailed them and they told me they would be in next week and the price. Shipping was cheap and very quick took 2 days. I have read many good reviews about their scopes so I wasn't going to think twice about ordering from them.

Thanks guys, Perhaps these complaints I've heard of were in there beginning stages of business. Does the centered scope mount seem rigid and durable?

Also, Slick could you specify which mount you purchased I looked at them today and only noticed one which was the v style clamp is this the proper style.

It's this one->
http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/graph/images/sighting_devices/accessories/zen_hig_svd_weav_bf_1_600.jpg
and it's listed as:
POSP/PSO SVD/SKS Side Mount to Weaver Rail /w Black Finish ( #AMSVDPOSPSMWBF )
It seems every bit as sturdy as either my LPS-Tip2 or PSOP mounts - but as I mentioned, it's still not completely centered, but it IS much closer than either of my two scopes.. It's worth $50 IMHO even though I got mine from their bargain bin for $35 - you you might want to check there too (I didn't see any today).

Well I decided to go the Kalinka route with a centered low profile mount with a side picantinny rail. Looked great when I recieved it but seemed it didn't fit on as smooth as my original posp scope mount...anyways took it with me to do some reloading at a buddies farm and once mounted with a scope I went to sight it in and my god could the thing not hold zero. After examining closely tbe whole mount rocks on the slide...no way and hell thats goin to hold zero. So I shipped it back and now I'll find out just how good there customer service is...the main thing I've heard lots of poor stuff about. If there is another brand of scope mounts out there that someone else favors let me know.
Thanks.

Did you adjust the clamp properly? You have to take the nut to the tightest setting that will still allow the locking lever to close.

Kalinkas customer service is good. mine did the same, didnt fit well on the rail. customer service told me how to fix it very detailed, and even emailed me a few days later to see if the problem was fixed.
Hey slick, could you post a pic of that 8x on your PSL, want to see what it looks like mounted before i order mine.

Sure... please excuse the "medicine bottle cap" that I used as an early lens cover.. I have a Butler Creek on it matches the front and even "pop's up" when I bap the button.

This is the "PSOP 8x42 DM6 Pro Mil-dot" and has an adjustable diopter and "monster-sized" adjustment turrets.. I almost hate to admit that this scope is on-par with like models costing TWICE to 3-times the $200 entry fee. (Get one!)
I'm one of the PSL-guys that doesn't like the rubber "bellows" on the scope (most folks do) - so understand that i'm in the minority here..

thanks, im just going to get the standard POSP with the Dragunov range finder. i will keep the rear eye piece but get a flip up for the front.

That ought to serve you well. Consider ordering the spare bulb pack now and save on the shipping - because if you're at all like me, you'll want it later... :D

The one I have is the "UTG" (Leapers) brand (which is air-soft type stuff), but a rubber butt pad is pretty much a rubber butt pad... It didn't come with a strap, but it doesn't need one.
In fact I couldn't get mine to hardly even go on - so I baked it for about an hour in my toaster-oven at 190 degrees and it made it softer and MUCH easier to get slipped on.

Looks like they just bumped it up another dollar as they were $7.99 when I posted this link yesterday...

anyone know how much it is to ship one of those

It costs about as much to ship as the cost of the pad - which is why I picked up two of them plus some other items..
I keep a running list of small items that I need/want (but can afford to wait for), then when I have enough things to order it makes it more worthwhile. It also helps to call your friends and see if there's anthing they need to pump up the order and make shipping cheaper for everyone.

Yes, I did mess with the scew adjustment...I may not be Einstein but far from the ignorant left...I had it so tight you practically had to use a rubber hammer for it to slide on and off..still no fix. The problem is the angles of the mount are probaly no more than 5 degrees off but because of the height of this mount it doesnt take much to get alittle rock and I mean you can tell with just a firm bit of pressure on the scope...my mount is secure ...and my old scope never had a problem but do to reloading I've decided to put a more powerful scope to really fine tune some loads...just waiting on Kalinka to finally email me back!

just waiting on Kalinka to finally email me back!
You might want to re-send your email. I had to return the red bulb from my assortment and emailed them. After waiting a week and not hearing anything, I emailed them again. The person told me that they had gotten and replied to my first email - but it never made it back to me. I have no idea why the email was lost, but they took care of my issue with no problems. Since all of my further correspondence with Kalinka was replied to promptly, I’m thinking possibly their reply to your email may have been lost?

just ordered my 8x scope! go the last one for now from them. owhen i ordered the scope went off the site, so i was worried about my order and sent them a email. got a response no more then 110 minutes later saying i got the last one, and when they sell out it goes off the site. "you purchased the last one in stock so it comes off the site when we sell out. nothing to worry about....Scot
Slick
I think they get them in small lots as mine went off the web site when I ordered too…
