View Thread: Loose front sights

Mide
Greetings,
I got a 91/30 32 Tula a few weeks back...great gun with only one small issue. The front sights totally move around when centered. Is anyone else's like this or has anyone had any experience with the ATI aftermarket front sight?

Welcome to the files Mide! Is it your original front sight that is loose, or an after market sight? You may want to order an original front sight from Tennessee gun works or egunparts.com and file the dove tail to fit. You would be taking a chance on the ordered sight having a larger base then yours. Is the dove tail groove on your barrel in good shape? or is it worn?

Hi, I'm glad to be on-board. It looks to be an original mosin front dovetail sight but I can't say that it was the one paired with the rifle when it was first manufactured. Since the barrel has been counterbored, I'm assuming the part was replaced. Yeah I think my only bet will to try to purchase a replacement part and see if it sticks. Too bad there isn't many aftermarket replacements for this. Thanks for the links though...I'll look to see what they have.

Follow pat's(mosinnutty) advice first.if the replacement sight is also loose, you can stake the sight in place, but you'll lose any windage adjustment

it's better than having a useless rifle.....

I actually ended up reversing the existing sight and it now fits pretty snug. Who would've thought

what do you even use to adjust front windage?
when i shoot with my bayo off its about 3-4 inches right of where i aim....the bayo centers my group, but i dont like shooting with the 20" death spike cause the fit is so tight i need vicegrips to twist it off

You use a brass punch and a hammer to adjust for windage. If you're shooting to the right, punch it to the right. Ditto on the bayo...so damn hard to get off and on but man is it a threatening device.

use some emery cloth or a dremel and releive some metal from the inside of the bayo mount, until it just fits snugly

don't take any metal or finish off of the barrel

u never know when you may have to hold off a cavalry charge :tongue_sm

ive done the dremel on the bayo. when o got my mosin i couldnt get the bayo half way over the muzzle. Very threatening device. but i dont need it....yet haha.
im plannin to put a pu setup on as soon as i can afford to. id prolly only use the bayo in an extreme shtf scenario

I think you'd do better to run in an SHTF situation than to try to defend yourself with a bolt-action rifle, but hey! It's fun isn't it?

One good thing about the mosin is that it has range :-) The baddies would have to get close first.

range is good
so are trip mines lol

After the smoke clears from battle, The bayo is great for roasting hot dogs!:sidegrin_
