We all own the little trap door cleaning kit. How many uses have you come up with to assist in your AK maintenance? Lets hear your "improvisions".....

Mine usually just hides inside the little trapdoor. But some kits come with an axis pin guide which helps installing a non-sleeved FCG. Also some have a slit in the side of the tube that fits the gas tube latch and can be used to turn the latch vs hitting it with something or a screw driver for a stubborn latch/lever..
Otherwise I do not McGiver with the pill kit. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. :wink_smal

thats really the only thing i use the kit for.

Used for the gas tube latch as mentioned and also the flathead screwdriver part for turning the latch that holds the lower HG retainer. Had a pierced primer once on a 74 and used the kit to take the bolt apart a remove a piece of the primer that was causing the FP to stick. Before I got my Otis cleaning kit I used the muzzle guide (cap) all the time and it worked great.

When taken bolt apart, take and place the bolt head over the tool kit container...push firing pin retainer and let drop into kit tube. I also use the "tube" as a handle when workingon the bolt. Just place entire bolt stem inside of tube....ads a bit more leverage.

If you can find an issue of guns an ammo's Complete book of the AK-47, theres a 2-page article on all of the uses for the pill kit. Theres a bottle opener too.

Any suggestions where I can find a replacement for my Romanian AK-47? When I bought the gun, it was not in the stock.

Or try $14.95 (plus shipping) at AIM for the goodies bundle including bayonet with scabbard, leather sling, a pouch, oil bottle, and the stock field cleaning kit:

Don't forget bottle opener. One of the few useful articles in G&A's "Book of the AK" was the article on the many uses of the AK's cleaning kit.

I ordered one of the AIM bundles (couldn't resist for $15). The "carry pouch" I received was a like new dual mag pouch (didn't even reek of mold). The cleaning kit (presumably new) is in a ball of cosmoline that they stuffed down into a pouch pocket (reaching it there and grabbing hold of that goober is an interesting sensation, not to mention trying to get the cosmo out of the mag pocket). The bayonet is a typical not-very-well stored bayonet (it's just fine functionally). The blade is coated in cosmo and looks new. The sling...well, there is a sling sized roll of fungus with a corroded buckle that came in the other pocket. I put it in a baggie for future consideration. I washed my hands very thoroughly after handling it. The oil bottle appears to be a not-very-well stored oil bottle (it's just fine functionally). It also came with something I do not recognize (and was not listed in the ad) that was stuffed down in a pocket which I'll need to identify here eventually. All in all, it was probably worth the $15.
