View Thread: Yugo vs Saiga availablity

I was curious on the opinions of this forum. I recently bought a Romanian PSL which I enjoy shooting, but wanted to pick up a few more guns as it is getting harder and harder to find good weapons. I want to buy a Yugoslavian AK-47 Rifle M70AB2 with underfolder stock and I am also interested in a Saiga 12ga Shotgun with the 19 inch barrel. My question is I can only afford to buy one this month and then the other in a few months. Which gun is mostly going to be harder to get?? Opinions appreciated...thanks.

If you're talking a new rifle, the Yugo M70AB2 will probably be more difficult to get. The Yugo's are built from surplus kits. A year ago, the M70AB2s were everywhere. Then, they disappeared for a while and have recently reappeared but are not as widely available as they were.

The Saiga-12s are new factory guns that are still being imported.

Thanks man I have found the Yugo's at a few stores for 600 to 700. All the reviews seem to make it quite a reliable Ak. I wondered if anyone knew anything about this, but I live in a small town in Florida and the gun dealers believe in only stocking american style guns. I got funny looks when I picked up my PSL at the local store and when I go to the range.

you could buy a saiga and do the conversion or have a friend help do the conversion, its not that hard and can be done with basic hand tools, drill, dremel and good mechanical skills.
check over on the Saiga forum for help or links to site that show how to do it.
both my Saiga .223 rifles took about 4 hours to do with help, hell if a couple of Pa hillbillies can do it so can you. just make sure you have all your U.S. compliance parts to make it legal.

Are you asking if the M70AB2s are reliable?

Yes, they are. I have three of them and all have been reliable. A couple of minor problems, but nothing significant and nothing that would affect function.

If you're looking for an AK that may not be available much longer, an M70AB2 is a good choice. They're also a little different than most other AKs. The biggest difference is their solid (but heavy) tank like build.

Thanks guys. Ya I think the saiga shotguns will be around for quite awhile. Where as the Yugo is getting harder to get. The Romanian's are good for the price but I was looking for something a tad more accurate and of better quality. I think I will pick up a Yugo next week especially since ammo is damn cheap in price. I was really surprised to find how expensive shotgun rounds were when I thought they were cheap.....glad I don't hunt.

actually the m70ab2s are out and about again. they all have the cheap plastic handguards though. easy upgrade.

Smart bomb I live in Ocala.

I was thinking of picking up the yugo from centerfire systems inc. I have bought mags etc from them and they seem reliable. The only thing is I can't seem to find any reviews from anyone who has bought a gun from them. Anyone know if they are good. I hear their kits are top notch.
thanks
